Today On KSR: Monday morning news kicks off Christmas week

Good morning, good people of Big Blue Nation and those of you here to bask in our temporary basketball misery. It’s good to see you on this Monday morning. Got your Christmas shopping done? Hard to believe in four days we’ll be setting out cookies for Santa. Christmas is right around the corner, you know.

You know what else is around the corner? The Louisville game. Six days away. Yikes.

Let’s talk football and other big weekend news first…

Kentucky is going to the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.

While Mark Stoops and his team were at Malibu Jack’s for pizza, wings and games on Bowl Selection Sunday, it was announced that the Wildcats accepted a bowl invitation to the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.

Kentucky will travel to Jacksonville for that January 2 game with NC State as the opponent from the ACC. Stoops said his team is 100% in, no opt-outs, and they’ve already gotten in two days of practices with the full roster in preparation. Vince Marrow is leading the offense, Stoops said, as the new UK offensive coordinator is still busy with the L.A. Rams (more on that in a moment).

Watch Stoops discuss the bowl game below:

Kentucky is a field-goal favorite in the game.

The Cats opened as a three-point favorite over the Wolfpack, according to Circa Sports out in Las Vegas. The total on the game is 52.5.

Things You Hate To See: Tennessee Football in trouble for cheating.

The Tennessee Vols did not interfere with UK’s bowl scenario this year, which is nice. Tennessee did however interfere with the rules (allegedly) as the program is under investigation by the NCAA and its own compliance department for suspicious activity on the recruiting trail.

When asked about allegations of paying players, UT head coach (for now) Jeremy Pruitt said, “I haven’t seen the article. Anytime in college football, you have typical compliance stuff. That’s all I know.”

Tennessee accepted an invite to play Neal Brown’s West Virginia in the Liberty Bowl and I hope West Virginia wins by one to two million points.

Did we KSR Curse UK’s new offensive coordinator?

The winless New York Jets upset the L.A. Rams yesterday in the Rams’ first game since its assistant QB coach Liam Coen took UK’s offensive coordinator job. It was the biggest upset of the NFL season considering (a) L.A. was a 17-point favorite; (b) L.A. was 5-1 at home entering the game in L.A.; (c) the Rams had won four of five and were tied for first in the NFC West; and (d) the Jets hadn’t won a football game since 2019. Now the Rams are behind the Seahawks in the division and the Jets are no longer the front-runner for Trevor Lawrence, a lose-lose outcome for both parties.

UK Basketball talk: Cam’Ron Fletcher issues apology to Big Blue Nation.

I’m trying to avoid any UK Basketball chatter this morning to keep from ruining the Monday before Christmas, but Cam’Ron Fletcher’s apology letter is worth mentioning.

Fletcher, who was seen crying on the UK bench in the final minutes of the loss to North Carolina, wants BBN to know he is sorry for letting his emotions get the best of him.

“Hope all is well BBN, I want to apologize to the BBN, my teammates and coaches. I also want to provide clarity on what happened at the end of yesterday’s game. I was frustrated and let my emotions get the best of me. I always feel I can help the team. I am a team player and it hurts to see my team struggle. That’s why I was frustrated and my emotions peaked. There is no excuse for my behavior at all. I just want to make sure everyone knows I am fully committed to this program and am willing to do whatever I’m asked by my coaches. I will never let that happen again and this mistake in no way reflects who I am. I made a mistake and I take full ownership. Again, I want to apologize to BBN, my teammates and coaches. Stay with us, we are going to get this right.“

The apology wasn’t necessary, but it shows the maturity of a young freshman who wants his fans to know how much he cares.

Ellen trolled Brad in the Calipari Christmas card.

We have A LOT to say on KSR this morning.

You’ll want to tune in to hear Matt Jones, Ryan Lemond, Shannon The Dude and myself as we recap the weekend, including that ugly loss to UNC in basketball. Tune in at 10 a.m. and give us a call if you want to be heard.

Go Cats.

Love Cal, but he owes BBN a much bigger apology than Fletcher. Fletcher is a kid whose emotions got the best of him, Cal’s refusal to to change anything up and his terrible explanation on why 5 stars who are not producing still get minutes over other players just does not cut it.

Is Brooks really hurt? The leadership talk about taking a few questions when he didn’t play seems odd but that’s beside the point. He participated in pro day. Does a bunch of drills but has a leg injury preventing him from playing? The whole thing is weird.
