Good morning. How was your weekend without Kentucky football? The Cats took the weekend off to rest up and get healthy, leaving BBN without a football game to watch on Saturday. I hope you were able to spend it with friends and family, and not stressing/yelling at a television. We have four more Saturdays to do that, beginning with this upcoming Saturday when UK returns to action in Kroger Field with our friends from Nashville coming to town.
It’s Vandy week and we’ll get you ready for it.
Mark Stoops will address the media at noon.
Coming up at twelve o’clock, Stoops will sit down to take questions from the media for about 45 minutes in his first public comments of the week. There will be a lot to address coming out of the bye week, things like the QB competition now that Terry Wilson is available again; the status of Quinton Bohanna, UK’s starting nose guard who returned to practice; the latest on the four injuries suffered in the Georgia game; what to make of the offense; and lots more.
We will of course package all of Stoops’ remarks up for you throughout the afternoon. You can tune in for more from Stoops during his return to the airwaves on his Monday night call-in show at 6 p.m. in Lexington.
Vanderbilt lost at Mississippi State.
After scoring zero points through almost three entire quarters this past Saturday, Vandy mounted a comeback in Starkville, only to come up short in the effort to secure a first win of the 2020 season. The ‘Dores scored 14 unanswered to cut Mike Leach’s lead to 17-14 in the fourth quarter, but the two TD drives were followed by consecutive turnovers by true freshman quarterback Ken Seals. Mississippi State won in the end, 24-17.
Vandy’s results so far this season:
Texas A&M 17, Vanderbilt 12
LSU 41, Vanderbilt 7
South Carolina 41, Vanderbilt 7
Ole Miss 54, Vanderbilt 21
Mississippi State 24, Vanderbilt 17
An Oct. 17 game against Mizzou was postponed due to COVID.
Kentucky is a 17-point favorite in the game.
Kentucky is 3-3 against the spread so far with covers in games against Mississippi State, Tennessee and Georgia.
Last time UK and Vandy played:
Chris Rodriguez rushed for a game-high 129 yards, Lynn Bowden rushed for 110 and Bowden threw for another 104 on 8-of-10 passing and a TD.
Rodriguez averaged 8.6 yards per carry. Run it back?
Avery Williamson debuted with the Steelers.
Kentucky’s favorite NFL team, the Pittsburgh Steelers (sorry, Bengals fans), remains a perfect 8-0 after securing a narrow win over the struggling Cowboys in Dallas. Benny Snell got only three carries for one yard and Bud Dupree made one tackle for the defense, but new Steelers linebacker Avery Williamson earned his first win since 2018 in a limited Steelers debut.

Congratulations, Jack Givens.
Goose joins the UK Sports Network as a replacement for Rex Chapman on UK basketball pregame shows. Givens said in a press release, “As a kid growing up in Lexington, you dreamed of winning a national championship with Cawood Ledford on the call. To have experienced that was an incredible feeling. To now join the network of Cawood Ledford and share my lifelong love of Kentucky basketball with Big Blue Nation is exciting.”
Givens and Dave Baker will be the crew for the Don Franklin Auto Countdown, which takes over after the KSR pregame show before each game. Chapman will switch to “new media,” the release says.
Speaking of basketball…
Get excited about Isaiah Jackson.
We will talk to Isaiah Jackson tomorrow as part of KSR’s fall basketball preview.
