The Kentucky football team hosts the Eastern Michigan Eagles today as they look for a bounce back win after last week’s crushing loss to Florida. Mark Stoops has put a major emphasis on not allowing last week’s game to affect the team’s performance in today’s game. We will find out just how strong the team’s leadership is based on the team’s performance today.
With that being said, here are three things Kentucky fans want to see against the Eagles today:
More Lynn Bowden
In the Florida game we saw Lynn Bowden run out of the wildcat, throw out of the wildcat, along with his regular kick returning duties. Stoops told reporters earlier this week that they hope to get Bowden more looks at the traditional receiver position rather than in the wildcat. It will be interesting to see how Eddie Gran tries to get the ball in Bowden’s hands. The freshman receiver showed us his athleticism and elusivness in the limited action he saw against Florida. Look for Gran to get Bowden involved early in this one.
Better Run Defense
Throughout the first 3 games of the 2017 season the Kentucky defense excelled in stopping opposing teams from gaining much of anything on the ground. In last week’s game Florida dominated the Kentucky defensive line in the fourth quarter as the Gators averaged 5.2 yards per carry. The Kentucky defense could not get off the field in short yardage situations, Florida was able to pick up tough first downs by running the ball. A few missed tackles really hurt the Cats. Look for a bounce back performance from the Kentucky front-7 as they clearly outmatch the Eastern Michigan offensive line.
More Stephen Johnson
Good things happen when the ball is in the hands of our starting quarterback. Stephen Johnson may have played his best game in a Kentucky uniform last week as the senior quarterback completed 17 of 25 passes for 196 yards 3 touchdowns and no turnovers. Johnson did what he had to do for Kentucky to win that game. Johnson connected on several tough throws down the field, look for more of that today. Garrett Johnson, Charles Walker, CJ Conrad and Blake Bone have emerged as Johnson’s main targets. They should all be heavily involved in today’s game.
