Yesterday, Drew Franklin brought you the rundown on Maty Mauk. While tonight’s game is shaping up to be decided by quarterback has the better game, Missouri still has an arsenal of guys that could make a major impact. Here are the three Tigers with the potential to change the game and the three players Kentucky will need to contain if they’re going to win the game.
Kentrell Brothers, ILB
In Micheal Sam and Shane Ray, Missouri has had two players capable of being SEC defensive player of the year. (Sam won and Ray got injured) Now, Kentrell Brothers seems to be next in that elite line. Brothers is leading the nation in tackles with 42 and has already nabbed two interceptions along with blocking two kicks. He does a little bit of everything for the Tigers on defense. After the line was completely dominated against the Gators last weekend a chance for redemption could come in the form of keeping Brothers under control. All eyes will be on the line play and Jon Toth could end up as the MVP.
Charles Harris, DE
The other head of the two-headed Missouri defensive beast is defensive end Charles Harris. Harris has already racked up 8 tackles for loss which is second best in the nation. The young DE is only a sophomore and is a name you’ll be hearing a lot over the next two seasons. The Cats are going to need to contain one of these two guys, otherwise it is going to be a very long day for Patrick Towles.
Russell Hansbrough, RB
The Tigers are hoping the return of running back Russell Hansbrough is the key to solving their offenses’ woes. The senior running back could help take some of the pressure off of Maty Mauk but I don’t know that he is the answer they are looking for. Last year against the Cats, Hansbrough had 15 carries for 19 yards. Missouri should be looking to get him the ball early and often to establish their running game. Hold him to a similar performance as he had last season and the Cats should have a great chance at a W.
