Kentucky running back Kavosiey Smoke is making a name for himself already. Or rather, his own name is making him a name for himself.
The redshirt freshman is a part of the Wildcats replacement plan for Benny Snell, who was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Smoke, along with AJ Rose and Chris Rodriguez, form Kentucky’s new three-headed monster rush attack.
The three backs combined 176 rushing yards on 28 carries with Smoke recording 78 of those yards on seven carries, highlighted by this 40-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter that put Kentucky up by 14.
Smoked…by Kavosiey Smoke ?

But it was his actual name that caught fire on social media. After all, it’s not often a 5-foot-9 bolt of lightning is named Kavosiey.
I’m mad at my parents for not naming me Kavosiey Smoke.

And now I’m wondering… Does Smoke have the best name in all of college football?
Bleacher Report compiled a list back in 2011 of what they believed to be the best names college football has ever produced. Familiar names such as Ndamukong Suh and Colt McCoy made the top of the list while other, more random and obscure names such as Sonny Sixkiller (badass name, I’ll admit it) and Tank Carder were also listed near the top.
Smoke’s only current competition is De’coldest Crawford, a high school wide receiver out of Lousiana.

In my completely, 100 percent, unbiased opinion, Kavosiey Smoke blows them all out of the water (there’s a “Smoke on the water” joke here somewhere… Help me out). It even sounds eerily similar to the word Courvoisier, a popular brand of cognac. Smoke is literally built (both physically and according to his birth certificate) to be a modern-day social media darling. Update your list, B/R.
It also helps that Smoke played an excellent game in Kentucky’s season opener.
“I just felt like it was my time to shine,” Smoke said following the game. “Nobody was stopping me from getting to the endzone.”
Get ready to say (and hear) Kavosiey Smoke’s name a lot more this season. If he keeps breaking out for 40-yard touchdown runs, his clout amongst the Twitterverse is only going to continue to skyrocket.
