The SEC East is Riding the Struggle Bus

On a day when the SEC has scheduled plenty of “guaranteed wins,” nothing has come easy.

Florida, the SEC Eastern Division Champions, was taken to overtime by two-win Florida Atlantic.  That’s the same Florida Atlantic team ranked #23 in the CBS Bottom 25.  The Gators would have lost if they didn’t get a defensive stop.  After scoring on the first drive of overtime, their PAT was blocked, giving them only a 6-point advantage.  The final two passes from FAU into the rainy end zone were this close to making highlight reels around the nation.

South Carolina wasn’t so lucky.  On the Gamecocks’ Senior Day they lost to the Citadel, making Kentucky’s road win at Williams-Brice look even more impressive.  It was the Citadel’s first win over an FBS team since before most of their players were born in 1992.

The game-winning touchdown from Columbia native, Tyler Renew.

I wasn’t worried at all about tonight’s game, but Florida and South Carolina have made me reconsider.

The way it normally works with UK football is that there are numerous really close calls where SEC teams win by a touchdown or field goal, and we are the ones who lose to the Jr. College.
