The Latest on Vince Marrow Situation

The biggest recruiting moment for UK Football in a long time may be taking place this weekend as Vince Marrow contemplates whether to leave UK and take a job at Michigan. There is a great deal of misinformation out there on this and reports have ranged from Marrow definitely coming back to having already accepted the job at Michigan. I have spoken with a source close to the situation and am confident neither one of the above reports is true. At this point, here is where things stand:

— Marrow has a job offer from Michigan and Harbaugh to take a job similar to the one that he has here.

— Marrow is torn as to what to do and has a deep affection for both Mark Stoops and Lexington.

— UK will be communicating with Marrow this weekend to try and keep him at the University.

This is where we stand as of now. I am not sure when the final decision will be made, but I can’t imagine that it goes later than Monday. My gut instinct after talking to some folks is that Marrow is genuinely torn and that if Kentucky can come close to the offer on the table from Michigan, he will stay. But that remains to be seen and is just my feeling, not fact.

Either way, I do think whatever happens with Marrow will be huge for the program. He is responsible for around 30% of UK’s commits under Stoops and has had an impact on a number of others. While I trust Stoops could find a replacement, Marrow is a known, successful commodity and would be a huge loss, especially on the 2015 class. It is important to do all that can be done to keep him.

Stay tuned…

UK needs to match the Michigan offer immediately. Don’t lose Marrow over money, it will set the program back several years!

I hope he stays as well but put nothing in this article. Coaches always say whatever is appropriate at that time no matter if it is true or not. Saying “where would I go, wife would kill me” etc was said because other coaches were telling recruits Vince and Mark will be gone soon. He left a long time friend to come here and may do it again. Hope he retires here but to think anything in this article would make him stay is crazy. Part of being a great recruiter is looking people in the eye and telling lies. If he meant want he said he would not even be up there talking to them.

      Why not?

I think the Ohio State win over Alabama has already hurt the Cats recruiting in Ohio by taking some of the luster off the SEC as the best conference. If we lose Vince Marrow, it goes a long way toward cutting off the Ohio pipeline that has been setting up to be a major factor in UK’s football future.

Give him more money!!! We all know how those big mid-season raises improved our team and kept the coaches a tightly knitted family this year!

It can’t be about the money. I love UK, but the money would have to be double at UK for him to stay based on tradition. It has to be his relationship with Stoops that would keep him a wildcat, IMO.

Please stay Vince–you embarked on a mission with your friend at Kentucky. Ther’s no reason you and Mark Stoops can’t raise this Kentucky program to greatness; but leaving before the mission is complete will harm the recruits you’ve bought in, the recruits we’re still after, and you friend’s chances of success. We “need” you Vince; Michigan doesn’t.

So true. Harbaugh will get his. But it’s an attractive offer to go to a football school like that, so Mitch needs to give Vince a raise.

Thanks for the turtle heads up.
      That rally stinks.
Garcia certainly solied himself due to too much Gatoraid – which powered his explosive run.

Correction: Garcia was kindly attempting to cover Adam Lane’s trail.

Going all out to keep Vince if not for any other reason then to send a message & a shot across the bow to other schools & now NFL teams, UK not messing around. This is also an example of why people should never make statements just to make statements no matter how much better the offer might be. The statement I’m sticking with Stoops like 4 flat tires is now unless I get a better offer or more money. Money isn’t always everything especially in Vince case when he is just getting used for his connections in Ohio.

If Kentucky loses Marrow to Michigan it will set back the program by at least one year, maybe two. I hope UK does all it can to keep him. The cost of damage control will be higher than the salary increase. This, combined with Harris’s love of Alabama, is not a great way to start 2015. Here’s hoping for the best…
