That old familiar feeling

We’ll always have that fake field goal.

Unfortunately, that was one of the few highlights of Kentucky’s 27th straight loss to Florida. Kentucky kept it close in the first quarter, but that was about it. The dual-QB system prevented the Cats from finding any kind of flow offensively, and as a result, its best play came from Joe Mansour, who scored the Cats’ lone touchdown on a fake field goal.

Maxweel Smith was 12/21 for 90 yards and one interception. Jalen Whitlow was 5/7 for 35 yards. Joe freaking Mansour led the team in rushing, with 25 yards and one touchdown. Just read that again. As expected, Florida’s defense was stellar, and backup QB Tyler Murphy and RB Matt Jones ran all over the Cats, with a final score of 24-7.

Hang tight, because we’re going to talk about this some more.

If anyone really thought the streak was going to end this year with Joker Phillips recruits in key positions, I’m sorry but you are more delusional than the average Louisville fan. Look for the return trip Commonwealth in two years for this godawful streak to hopefully come to an end. But remember, we are playing THE FRIGGIN’ TOUGHEST SCHEDULE IN THE COUNTRY in a REBUILDING YEAR. Read that again, and then go to bed, sleep off the bourbon buzz, and get up and read it again in the morning. Things are gonna get worse before they get better, but give this coaching staff some time to install their recruits (which are far better than what Joker was pulling in), and they WILL get better.

Time for Jeff Picoro to go. Terrible color guy. Said it was a good thing when Florida went on a 17 play drive to open the game because if they keep the ball a long time they might make a mistake! Says stuff like he’d like to see Kentucky try to get a turnover here ( great idea Jeff ). And then rips the fans for leaving in the 4th Quarter when clearly Kentucky was not coming back. The guy is bad and needs to go.

Enjoy the slide down to mid-level irrelevance in the SEC while Bama, A&M and Georgia pass you by, now that “Chucky” and Joker are running things. Hell, your boys made Louisville look like the New England Patriots last year, and I really think UK played a better game against them this year.

Gaytorbait, seems like a lot of UT fans were saying the same thing about their streak a few years ago. I, like most rational fans, didn’t expect the streak to end this year, but if you all keep Muschamp and Joker, and Stoops keeps bringing in better recruits over the next few years, then I’ll take my chances that the infamous streak will be ending in the next few years. Muschamp can’t hold Spurrier or Meyer’s jock – his team was pathetically ill-prepared in their bowl game last year, and he had one of the most epic meltdowns during that second half that I have ever seen. Yeah, we are down now, but don’t act like Florida is heading in the direction that most of their fans want them to. They are rapidly losing ground to the likes of Bama, USC, A&M, yes, even UT. Enjoy the slide.

A few weeks ago when we were on vacation we went to a concert and sat next to a lovely couple from New Orleans who are LSU fans. Of course we talked about football (this was just after the WKU game) and the husband asked me what in the world happened to UK’s football team because we had been really competitive under Rich Brooks. I told him it went downhill when Joker took over and got rid of most of Brook’s assistants and brought in his own guys and that things just went south quickly but that things were looking up with our new coaches, at least in recruiting. BUT I TOLD HIM THAT IT WOULD TAKE 3 YEARS BEFORE WE WOULD BE BACK TO COMPETING IN THE SEC. Anyone who thought it would be this year, well I admire your positive attitude but you don’t win the Derby with horses that can only compete with $20,000 claimers.
It was nice to talk to them about Anthony Davis. They are big Pelicans fans and very happy to have AD on their team. It was really cute to see how excited the wife got talking about him. I reminded them that Darius Miller would make solid contributions too.

Good grief, upset? Really? Martin Scorsese can’t take a bunch of community theatre actors and win a Best Picture Oscar. We got beat by Western thoroughly, they got thumped by Tennessee, a team that got thumped by Florida. We want this to be like Pitino’s first year where we mostly sucked, but still could beat an LSU on occasion. Football just doesn’t work that way.

NL – sorry, losing to WKU again is not heading in the right direction. This team is terrible. 2-10 is equal to 2-10, expecting 4 wins is a pretty low bar, ur thinking 17 and 14 point losses are improvements and losing to a directional school? have fun watching 20 losses over two years in your dreamland

  55. louie
    10:44 pm September 28, 2013 Permalink

Too many dreamers. The Gator second team is light years better than our first team. We knew that going in. They were way better on paper,..which is always the case, Plus when it rains, it pours. And it’s been pouring on Kentucky going up against the Gators for TWENTY-SEVEN STRAIGHT YEARS NOW!!!!! Yet we had all these fans and media totally out of touch with reality that were PREDICTING we would actually upset them??? That in itself doomed us,..before you even get to actually discussing why they are light years better than us. TALK IS CHEAP. Talk can have you a winner over Bama and the rest of the SEC,…not losing a single game. You just “say” you will win all the rest of our games. It’s not hard to talk. I’m of the opinion that you don’t just talk your way to a win. You beat a team first,..then if you must,..then if you must you talk about it. When all you do is talk about upsetting Florida, you not only lose. But you set yourself up to have to spend a lot of time wiping egg off your face when the game ends. It’s like the more you talk, the more embarrassing it is when you were proven just how wrong you were. 27 years worth of wrong. The positive talk (bragging) actually jinxes our chances to win the game. Makes it ten times as hard. Sets that talker up to be proven a fool. I doubt most of the talkers even realize they have egg on their face! If we can ever get to where we say we’d like to win,…but the odds are against us, so we’ll just have to see how it turns out,…i.e. no trash stupid talk. Then we played the game, then and only then we “might” eventually win one due to the law of averages. But only if we quit predicting we are gonna upset them. If we keep doing that,…we’ll lose another 27 in a row. Like I say, is cheap,…and can be posted on locker room walls of superior teams. They usually respond to that kind of thing by kickin your arse. Let you game speak for itself. Don’t talk about how you are gonna pull the upset. Please and thank you. Smack talk. Not sure why a Cat fan would want to do that to a gator fan in football. Oh well.

Barnhart needs to be fired. Should have gone after Spurrier in ’05, hired Gillespie, kept Joker one year too long. Mike Leach has already beaten Washington and USC with a TERRIBLE WSU team.

55- The recruiting is improving. The play is more fundamentally sound. The defense has looked better. The facilities are undergoing a much needed upgrade. The young guys are showing some promising play. There isn’t a single area you can point to and say that it is getting worse. Did we lose to western? Yes. Will our record be very good this year? No. But there is this thing called time. It takes some of it to turn things around. That’s not a dreamland. That is reality. You are a miserable, overweight, pessimist that no one likes to be around. I dont know why UK fans thought they had a chance to win this game. This is the same UK team that lost to WKU and the same Florida team that has a top 5 defense. I find it equally head scratching that they thought Murphy starting would aid them in their upset bid. Did they not see him in the previous week and how much better he played then Driskel? Sure, it is his first start and its on the road…but its against UK. You all really drank the kool-aid for this one. There was absolutely nothing that should make you think UK could have won this game.

  62. BluKudzu

Until UK is committed to football, which they will never be, this streak and others like it that our football team is in now, will never change.
UK has been and will always be the laughing stock of college football. What was on the field tonight, players, coaches, administrative, was extremely humiliating. Thank God we had Two weeks to prepare for this butt whipping.
Does this staff really know what they are doing? Kemp on the sidelines? Putting our best on the field?
Hate to break it to you guys, the future is now.
Barnhart, c’mon man! What the heck? You are the AD for the most inept team with the most humiliating record in football. And you make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.
Who is your boss? How do I get a job like yours? Heck, I say fire those that are uncharged of keeping you!

  63. Air Raid
    1:21 am September 29, 2013 Permalink

I can promise you it is not all lack of talent. We will never have the talent to compete in the sec running the air raid. Someone explain to me how the air raid is any different than Joker’s play calling. I believe the defense is on track and believe in what they are doing on that side of the ball as shown by the improvement week to week. Holding Uf to 24 points is as much as we can ask any UK defense. No matter the talent, the air raid will not work. Why doesn’t Bama, LSU, Georgia etc run it? They don’t wanna score 70 points a game? No, its because it doesn’t work. The big 12 teams that run the air raid scoring 50 points a game play sec teams and score 10. Gimmicks don’t work. The year auburn won the title, they beat uk (who played traditional style football with Joker as HC) by 3, 37-34 on a last sec field goal at auburn. That same year, the high powered gimmick offense of Oregon scored 17 points against Auburn on a neutral field. Gimmick offenses don’t work in the sec or every team in the conference would run it. I’m not saying Neal Brown has to go, but if he doesn’t have a plan be it will be the same ol same ol. Fyi, we scored more points through 4 games last year with playing a Kent st team that made it the top 25. Miami oh is the 2nd worst team in football, and we scored more against Kent St with Joker as the coach. I like the defense and run game, but offensive playcalling and substition pattern on both sides is as bad or worse than last 2 years. THATS COACHING, NOT A TALENT GAP.
