Tennessee Picked the Worst Possible Nickname for its Offensive Line
Tennessee’s offensive line is great. The nickname the Vols picked for their offensive line is the worst.
About 175 miles north of Knoxville the University of Kentucky branded the bruisers in the trenches as the Big Blue Wall. The protectors of the BBN’s playmakers, the symbolism behind the Big Blue Wall matches the meaning. It fits like a glove. The nickname Tennessee chose forced a square peg into a round hole.
Tennessee has a ton of talent on its offensive line, with Trey Smith and Cade Mays poised to start on NFL offensive lines for years to come. In order to highlight their successes, Tennessee now refers to their offensive line as the Tennessee Valley Authority.

A fundamental force. #TVA pic.twitter.com/VZaVauoHY0

Comparing the Tennessee offensive line to the TVA is ridiculous.
Part of FDR’s New Deal, the legislation signed in 1933 served as an economic engine for Appalachia. Not only did it provide desperately needed jobs for those who suffered most during the Great Depression, the projects backed by the TVA — power plants, hydroelectric dams and other forms of flood control –dramatically increased the standard of living across the region.
The TVA is Tennessee’s most important piece of infrastructure. Can you say the same about Tennessee’s offensive line? Not after the Kentucky defensive line is finished with them Saturday.
