Mark Stoops and his thirteen of his best SEC coaching friends held a teleconference this morning to talk about how their teams did during spring practice. Stoops said that overall, he was pleased with his team’s progress, and despite minor injuries throughout the spring, they expect everyone to be back by the fall. Predictably, he was asked about the quarterback position, and said that he’s still not ready to name a starter:
“Patrick did some good things in the spring and played well. But I was also pleased with the other two. I am not quite ready to name a starter, but I feel good about the quarterback play.”
Later on, Stoops was asked specifically about Reese Phillips, whom he said was at times the most consistent of the three, and very much still in the hunt:
“Reese is a guy that the coaches and our players have a lot of confidence in and that’s a great compliment. He is guy we feel is always very steady. At times throughout the spring he was the guy most consistent and moved the team the best. He seems to do very good things and have a good command of the offense. Reese is very much in the hunt. I like the way he is playing.”
Let’s just not drag it out into the season, please.
