Stoops stays mum on possible staff changes

stoops-patience

Since football season ended, everyone’s been wondering whether or not Mark Stoops would make changes to his coaching staff. This afternoon, Stoops sat down with the Herald-Leader and the Courier-Journal to discuss the season and said he’s still mulling over what changes to make.

From the Courier-Journal’s Jon Hale:

“It affects a lot of people in this program and everything we’re doing moving forward,” Stoops said Wednesday in a roundtable interview with local newspapers. “I will do what makes sense and what’s best for this program in my best opinion and not be influenced by anybody else. I think it’s fair to say you have to evaluate everything, and, yes, we’re in the middle of looking into all that.

“Would I anticipate some change in this program, little or big? Of course. There’s change every year in most programs.”

Sounds pretty non-committal to me. Hopefully we’ll hear more during Stoops’ appearance on KSR tomorrow morning. In the meantime, go check out his interviews with the Herald-Leader and Courier-Journal.

If he doesn’t know what changes to make, that’s an even bigger problem.

Geez, he’s not gonna come out and say it Long Dong. He shouldn’t call out anyone in a press conference. He has more class than that. There are some obvious changes that need to be made and I’m glad to hear him say he’s gonna make changes that HE deems correct. He knows more about football than any fan sitting in the stadium on just about any given Saturday. He knows his personnel and their limitations better than anyone. Get behind him or get out of the way! Stop the negativity. Go Stoops and Go Cats!

No one thought he would drop names. I was talking about change.

Also, if he knows so much, why doesn’t he show it? Pointing out things isn’t negativity.

Pointing out things while implying, in a passive agressive way, the coach doesn’t know what changes to make IS negativity. That’s the tone I read into the comment anyway. If I’m mistaken, apologies are owed. If not mistaken, my original comment stands. We have to give this coach time with recruiting and time to grow. Or are we so accustomed to Sugar Bowls and SEC Championships that we can’t give him slack after 3 years?

Let’s see who’s closer to predicting the future, shall we? If Stoops turns it around, you can come back and say I told you so. I don’t have any problem admitting if I’m wrong. Stoops is clueless about what he’s doing as our head coach. I stand by that. Nothing negative or passive aggressive about it.

Good idea, i wish you wouldn’t have let people influence you on the quarterback this year but you did.

Difficult to identify any player who has improved under Stoops. Red shirt years appear to be wasted. This appears to be a worse hire than Gillespie. How does WKU, Marshall, etc.. keep finding coaches who can and do win? We’ve had to live through Bradshaw, Claiborne, Curry, Joker and now Stoops. Bryant, Brooks and Curci proved that winning is possible at Kentucky. No way do we win more than 3 next year unless some changes are made. Suppose his indecisiveness is the reason, we can’t even make adjustments at halftime — don’t know what to do.

Zadarias, Bud, Melvin Kewis, Josh Forrest…Westry, CJ Conrad….to name a few

And Claiborne was a good coach btw…last time we went 9-3 was under him

And btw Gillespie was absolutely embarrassing, a black eye to UK and i will never forget his ridiculous, rude, and ignorant hightime interview while Vandy was ripping us in Nashville. I get it you don’t like Stoops, but comparing him to BCG is a massive overreaction.

“Ignorant hightime interview”? High doubtful. Drunk possible.

Look at WKU’s murderer’s row of opponents:

      Louisiana Tech
      Indiana (Loss)
      Miami (OH)
      Rice
      Middle Tennessee
      North Texas
      LSU (SEC, blowout loss) 20 – 48
      Old Dominion
      Florida Atlantic
      FIU
      Marshall W 28 – 49 (Marshall’s coach, blown out)
      Southern Miss

If you feel the need to be negative and try to argue your point, you’re gonna have to do better than that argument….

Dean, Josh Forrest is the only one you mentioned that progressed under Stoops. Bud and Zadarias were JUCO transfers that were going to be draft picks wherever they went. Conrad was held back this year. Westry is a freshman. He is good, but you can thank his high school coaches for that.

^ False. Bud was never a JUCO transfer.

I’d guess Stoops is making several changes. He’s not going to just fire his friends. That’d be an a-hole move. He’s going to get his friends ‘leads’ on other ‘opportunities’ first. He can do whatever he wants because Mitch signed him to one of the dumbest contracts in NCAA history.

Terrible on field decisions, absolutely no halftime adjustments and seemingly no idea how to stop a running quarterback , btw- very strange for a defensive coach.
But passing on Lincoln Riley as OC, only to let brother Bob take him and be in the final four was probably his worst decision among all theses bad ones.
He better makes some changes if he wants to save his ass.

Ps- article is dated Dec. 5. Dawson was not hired until Dec. 19.

Stoops needs to do his job. If he doesn’t Mitch needs to do his. One thing for sure, the special team coordinator will be fired, oh wait….nevermind.
I read and hear, what a great recruiting staff we have, yet 3 years of these recruits, have given us players that are selfish, soft, and out of shape. We have trouble makers, and head cases. They lack maturity, and the coaches seem to be ok with that. Either these kids are overrated, severely, or the coaching is lousy. Either way, Stoops needs to make significant changes, Or the next head coach will.

Disagree with me if you like, BUT facts speak for themselves — either the talent is over-rated or Stoops is the proverbial lost ball in high cotton. We have a former defensive coach who does not make half time adjustments or doesn’t know the adjustments to be made. The true disservice is not to us as fans accustomed to losing, but to the young men who are somehow convinced that they will become better at UK. Look at all the progress made by Matt Elam who turned down Alabama (no better than the first day he stepped on campus); Drew Barker who would now have been a two year starter at SC; and now Kash Daniels all set top follow in these footsteps. If a player makes it from UK to the pros, it is because of raw talent alone and nothing to do with player development.

You’re speaking in theoreticals. Thats not how an argument is won.
