Stoops on the QB race: “We’ll see what happens”

The post-scrimmage press conference opened up with the question on everyone’s minds: Is Patrick Towles the guy?

Stoops laughed, saying football media relations director Tony Neely prepped him this morning for that question.

“We’ll see. We’ll see what happens,” Stoops told us.

He said all three quarterbacks looked good and will look even better once everyone around them gets healthy. They’ve battled all spring for that top spot and it is still anyone’s game, although Towles played like the leader today.

When asked if there is a chance he’ll name a starter next week, Stoops laughed and said, “Yeah, there’s a chance. Probably pretty slim.”

I guess we’ll see. We’ll see what happens.

Is Max still on the team? Yeah the 3 young guns have more upside but Max has the experience. Don’t count him out yet. If he can get healthy he can compete.

I’ll take the talent over experience any day.

I love Max but he has no chance, and we risk losing the young guns if we start Max.. I thought it was clear Towles can make the out route throw we need.. Barker 7 for 19 tells me like most freshmen he needs work,,And although Towles threw a pick i thought 3 of Reese’s out pattern passes could easily been picked.. If im Towles and im not the guy why would i stay ? He looked the most SEC ready ..

Towles big arm will really give this offense an opportunity to take off. those out patterns he hit today were thrown on a rope. He looked the part today and if he continues to improve this summer we have ourselves a quarterback and a solid backup. Philips showed today he can’t make that throw but he looked solid on other throws. This will give us the chance to redshirt Barker.

You’d still want Maxwell on the team just because he’s got experience. Even if he doesn’t have as high of a cap.

I’d agree though, I think Towles is the guy right now. With Phillips second and Barker third out of the guys that played today.

Everybody wants Barker to be Manziel, but Manziel was a redshirt freshmen with a year to develop in the Texas AM system. Don’t put Barker in a hard to win situation because most UK sports fans will expect instant results and bail on Barker as soon as he struggles.

Football isn’t basketball. Even with the two solid recruiting classes there are still many holes to fill. Not sure I want a true freshman playcaller getting murdered in the SEC.
