Stoops has No Excuses, Explanation for Blowout Loss

@UKFootball
Mark Stoops started his postgame press conference simply. “There’s not a lot to say other than we got our butts kicked.”
That’s pretty much the only to sum up the 45-7 defeat. Whenever asked about specifics, he could not state much more than the obvious.
“We didn’t play very smart. We didn’t play very good in any way. We got a lot of work to do,” he said.
When asked specifically about the defense, it’s difficult to explain how you can give up 71 straight points and more than 1,000 yards in two games, so he kept it simple.
“We’re not playing very good defense, at all. We got to get a lot better. We’ve got to get stronger up front. In the back end, we thought we were gonna have some guys that were gonna cover some people, but we weren’t very good there either.”
Moving forward, Stoops isn’t going to simply set this one aside to start a new season. The coaches and players must learn from this loss.
“We all have to be held accountable for what we do. It starts with me.”
“I know we can play better than that,” he said. “We got to go back to work. There’s no where to run, no where to hide.”

Mark Stoops…defensive genius, ladies and gentlemen.
In 3 + years, Stoops is 12 – 26. the wins are:
Miami (OH)
Alabama State
Tennessee—Martin
Ohio U
Vandy
South Carolina
Louisana – Monroe
Louisiana—Lafayette
@ South Carolina
Missouri
EKU (OT)
Charlotte
Not exactly Murderer’s Row.
Spurrier knew it was time to hang it up being on that list twice.
Hire Buddy Stevens! Could he do any worse?
@Rixter and only 4 of the 12 are even SEC. And most of the 8 were closer than they should be.
#FireStoops
Look that up later and tell me I was wrong.
Coach….can you please elaborate on what being accountable means to you and what you are going to change? It’s not like you had a winning program and this beat down came from out of the blue. This loss and the same old blah, blah blah blah blah are getting old. Do the honorable thing and resign.
At this point, I think Stoops would prefer UK just fire him, pay him the $12mil buyout, and then he can go be a DC somewhere else making another salary
UofL put up 845 on the road at Syracuse.
That last game of the year is going to be insane unless Petrino doesn’t run it up…
Lol Petrino relishes running up the score in a way only Spurrier and Meyer can appreciate
Seriously, UL may put 100+ against us unless something changes soon.
Call Tressel and see if he wants the job.
Yeah. Let’s get more of Ohio State’s leftovers. There was a short time here when KSR was pushing an agenda that UK was going to compete with Ohio State. How is that working out?
Billy, who in their right mind would come to coach at UK? The best we can hope for are sloppy seconds from some big school.
WRONG!!!!!
I know UK will pony up near 4 million a year for a new, PROVEN coach. And given the new practice facility and roster with “some” talent, I bet there are MANY good coaches that would be interested. Briles, Kiffen, Pee Wee Herman….heck, anyone is better than the Stoopy Ginger we have now.
I need Coach Stoops to stop saying he should be accountable. Tell me HOW you will be held accountable…no hollow empty words. I propose he freely donate $1000 per point UK loses by to the Kentucky High School athletics. If we are supposed to stand behind this team as they learn and grow, then let’s invest in our in state players. Develop a real future for Kentucky football and really hold Coach Stoops to his “accountability”. Firing him or others makes no sense…who is better to replace them. But put the accountability on the table, and make something worthwhile of it.
Is there team in the In college football coach making the same money with the same or equal facilities that works all week to prepare a team that is coached like what we just watched on TV? What more does the AD( Mitch Barnhart) need to see that a change needs to be made before he collects his next check to feel good about the direct deposit from University of Kentucky?
At the end of the day it’s Ky football. Since I was a young man I have been waiting for a decent program to develop. I am now old. I don’t think I will live long enough to see a decent program there. Ky has blown millions on a stadium renovation and training facility. We have some 4 star and 5 star recruits. I believe they are truly that caliber. We must have 1 star coaching. I know that some other SEC teams has talent similar to ours and they win. If Stoops was a basketball coach at UK he would be finished. Since we are a basketball school football is only something to pass the time until the real season starts. Did our QB really have only 10 yards passing? Each year we have the toughest schedule in the nation because we are one of the worst teams. I’m afraid other teams will not want to play us because it does nothing to prepare them for the tougher games.
A shameful exhibition of football futility. Shame on you Stoops for scamming UK out of the millions you are getting, shame on you. What a huckster snake oil salesman you are. Now laugh all the way to the bank for what you have done.
Here’s a little food for thought, and please correct me if I am wrong! There are a lot of people who actually care about Kentucky football. But, what do we do we want (as fans) out of our football team? What do we consider successful? People loved Mumme and Morris. Neither finished better than 5th in the SEC. Brooks was loved and so was Joker (initially). BBN wanted Coach Phillips out after three seasons. Still, neither finished better than 4th in the SEC. Coach Stoops in his three year stint has joined Brooks and Phillips finishing at best, 4th place in the SEC. So what does BBN want from our team? A bowl game? A .500 season? 4th place in the SEC? I personally think we grit our teeth, take our losses, and have some consistency within our program. Consistency equals success!
The problem is that Stoops has a terrible personality. UK fans could almost accept losing if the coach was magnanimous and have some sort of redeeming personality that made him likeable. Heck, if he even had one key positive quality that put him above the bottom of the pack (such as calling his own plays or being a good ambassador to the state). But Stoopy is an a-hole and not well liked by anyone. Couple that with the clear fact he can’t coach and you have a program on the ropes ready to tap out before the first round is over.
Article title should state “Stoops has no excuses, explanation, or clue.”
Will someone pleeeeeaase buy Bear Bryant’s heirs a damned Cadillac?!?!?
DJ Elliot is terrible, Schlarman and the D-line coach are terrible and Stoops is the worst. He has no excuses or explanations because he is lost. Stoops is not a head coach, he has assembled a terrible staff. 4 stars out of Ohio & KY would be 2 stars out of Florida. We are no more than an OVC quality team and that may be an insult to them. This is going to be a worst season than Stoops first year, when we did not have any talent. We have had 4 supposed great recruiting classes and yet the play is getting worse. I wonder what Joker would do with this team, it couldn’t be any worse.
Give him another Extension
How about giving him the shaft instead?
But I always thought the problem was that Stoops had Joker’s players. Wait until he gets his own players. Isn’t that what BBBS (Big Blu Bull $hit) told us.
Your team beat the shit out of Syracuse. Why are you here?
He is here to post an opinion, which is obviously not shared by you, or the other dumbass kool aid drinkers of Barnhart’s bullshit club.
That is why you, and the other cowards, insinuate those which do not think the same as you, are Cardinal fans. Your world is of such limited scope, you have no other resource to draw from for intelligent, or even witty rebuttal, than pseudo name calling.
You are such a little man.
Well said, BluKudzu.
Stoops is a worthless POS.

Nothing will or should be done by the AD until the end of the season. Firing a coach after two games, no matter how bad, gains nothing. No coach at another school is going to talk to you at this point in the season. Hopefully, we turn it around and salvage a respectable rest of the year. Can Stoops and his staff do that? It doesn’t look very likely now. But, a knee-jerk firing solves nothing now.
