Stoops describes his team in one word

stoops and lowery

“Improved.”

That’s the word Mark Stoops used when asked by ESPN college football writer Brett McMurphy to describe his 2014 Wildcats. McMurphy asked every coach in the Power 5 conferences to “pick a word, any word” to describe their team, and Stoops said, “Improved.”  You like it?

Here are the other answers from around the SEC:

Alabama’s Nick Saban: Untested
Arkansas’ Bret Bielema: Motivated
Auburn’s Gus Malzahn: Experienced
Florida’s Will Muschamp: Hungry
Georgia’s Mark Richt: Wow
Kentucky’s Mark Stoops: Improved
LSU’s Les Miles: Unknown
Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen: Hungry
Missouri’s Gary Pinkel: Confident
Ole Miss’ Hugh Freeze: Relentless
South Carolina’s Steve Spurrier: Decent
Tennessee’s Butch Jones: Committed
Texas A&M’s Kevin Sumlin: Eager
Vanderbilt’s Derek Mason: Audacious

Leave it to Vandy to consult a Thesaurus prior to giving an answer.

You needed a thesaurus for “audacious”?

The point being it’s a very left of center answer, and, technically, if I were unclear as to the definition of audacious I would consult a dictionary. You can always count on someone being a magniloquent twat in the comments. It’s my favorite part.

      Nailed it.

And my point is “audacious” only calls for a thesaurus if the greatest extent of your learning came from coloring books instead of reading them. Otherwise, if you’re looking for a succinct answer that isn’t coach speak (i.e. “hungry,” “motivated”) it’s a pretty eloquent response.

I love Spurrier’s answer: decent. I used to hate Spurrier but after we beat South Carolina I’ve started to like the guy.

Spurrier is fresh out of f***s when it comes to what he says in public, and it’s hilarious more often than not. I have to agree, now that he’s not some frustratingly unbeatable coach he’s pretty entertaining.

Interesting how the 2 that are not complimentary are arguably the 2 best teams in the conference.

A very Vanderbilt response. And a very Spurrier response, too.

Richt “Wow” will soon change to ‘Huh?” when his team ‘under achieves’ again.

Ga. Richt response….is scary. I don’t think Muschamp will survive the season, hungry is the kind of response that losers give. LSU…unknown….it means, I got boat load of talent its unknown if Miles will win enough games to please the fans. Saban…untested, means they are going to kick a lot of ass until they get tested.

      Joker should have said ‘Ovamyhead’

People love to make fun of Joker and the bubble screen but the truth is offense was never the problem under Joker or Sanders. In fact, Joker had some of UK’s most prolific offenses when he had the right pieces. I mean he managed to get Mike Hartlune to throw for over 3000 yards his senior season. Mike friggin’ Hartline. It’s funny how these little fan chestnuts get started.

Joker would have said hungry, but only during delayed games.

I truly think cat fans are gonna have a big suprize this year. With the exception of a couple teams the rest are beatable teams. Not saying we will win 10 but they are winnable games. Ill step out of my comfort zone and say 7 wins. Why Not?
