During this afternoon’s press conference, Mark Stoops confirmed the news that junior left tackle Landon Young will miss the entire season.
“Very disappointing for Landon,” Stoops said. “It was a non-contact injury, he was just working with the offensive linemen… Got hit awkwardly and got a knee injury. Two years in a row to lose your starting left tackle, it’s disappointing.”
Stoops said that though there are some solid options to fill Young’s spot, his experience will be tough to replace.
“We’ve got some depth and some guys to step up and replace him, but you can’t replace his experience,” he said.
Stoops added that Naasir Watkins and EJ Price will take most of the reps at left tackle, and they’ll also move Darian Kinnard back to tackle for depth.
- Josh Paschal has a meeting this week regarding his malignant melanoma diagnosis. He will be out indefinitely.
- John Schlarman has gone through two rounds of chemotherapy. “He’s getting the best treatment he can,” Stoops said. “He is definitely battling a very serious illness… To John’s credit, he has been to work every day. Last Friday he had chemo all morning, was at practice in the afternoon.”
- After a hand injury kept him out of the open media practice last week, Stoops said offensive lineman EJ Price should be “full go” this week against Central Michigan.
- Jordan Jones will play on Saturday, though Stoops said the team will watch his reps.
