Stoops assistant turned down Power 5 coordinator job last night

In an interview with Dan Rieffer for The Dan & Mary Jo Show, Mark Stoops said one of his assistants turned down a coordinator job with a Power 5 conference program. Stoops was responding to a question about further changes to his staff, and noted the unnamed assistant elected to stick around Lexington rather than leave for a coordinator position.

Of the assistants on Stoops’ current staff, Andy Buh is the only one with experience as a coordinator, so he is a likely possibility. Buh, now UK’s outside linebackers coach, has been a defensive coordinator or co-defensive coordinator at Stanford, Nevada and California.

Then there’s Jimmy Brumbaugh, whose son, Legend, has one year left at Lexington Catholic. Brumbaugh has never been more than a defensive line coach, but sticking around for his son’s final year of high school football would be a good reason to turn down a job, if he were to receive an offer.

Derrick Ainsley is the up-and-comer of the bunch, although it’s unlikely he’s ready to become a coordinator right now. He will one day, though.

Who’s your guess?
