Stewart Mandel picks the Cats to go to the Music City Bowl

Our old pal Stewart Mandel is back with another prediction Kentucky fans will like. A few weeks back, Mandel predicted the Cats to go 7-5, and followed that up this week by picking the Cats to go to the Music City Bowl in his preseason bowl projections. Mandel has Kentucky facing Nebraska on December 30th in Nashville, in what will be dubbed the “Vince Marrow Bowl” if it happens.

Here are his picks for the rest of the SEC:

  • Cotton Bowl: Texas A&M vs. TCU
  • Orange Bowl: Ohio State vs. Auburn
  • Sugar Bowl: Alabama vs. Baylor
  • Independence Bowl: UNC vs. Mississippi State
  • Texas Bowl: Ole Miss vs. Texas Tech
  • Belk Bowl: Arkansas vs. Georgia Tech
  • Outback Bowl: Minnesota vs. Georgia
  • Citrus Bowl: Tennessee vs. Penn State
  • TaxSlayer Bowl: LSU vs. Louisville
  • Liberty Bowl: Missouri vs. Texas

Take it with a grain of salt, but the BBN in Nashville for New Year’s? I obviously like it.

    A bowl season without Florida or USC? And the Cats in Nashville! I love it!

    If Spurrier doesn’t go bowling this year, he’s going to throw his visor down, stomp on it, and call it a career. Florida has enough patsies on their schedule that they *should* go to a bowl game too. I’d say Vandy is the only real lock to be watching the postseason from home, but even our Cats have to reel in a couple of surprises to get back to the promised land.

      OR,

      NMSU – W (1-0)
      ECU – W (2-0)
      @UK – L (2-1)
      UT – L (2-2)
      Ole Miss – L (2-3)
      @Mizzou – L (2-4)
      @LSU – L (2-5)
      UGA – L (2-6)
      Vandy – W (3-6)
      @USC – W (4-6)
      FAU – W (5-6)
      FSU – L (5-7)

      You might even swap the Ole Miss and South Carolina results because of home field advantage … but there’s a shot there that they don’t get to 6. Especially if their injury bug doesn’t let up. See: Antonio Morrison (possibly out for season) and Martez Ivey (out “2-4 weeks” right now, maybe more), etc.

      It may be a long year for Coach Mac.

      The only things making me happier than Florida losses are UK wins, but Florida was a vastly inferior team to UGA and absolutely torched the Dawgs last year. I’d love to see this become a reality, but Georgia has a tendency to choke when you least expect it.

      Aside from that, we still have to actually play the game against UF. UK’s a greatly improved team by all accounts and Florida’s almost definitely taking a dive this year, but we aren’t guaranteed anything especially if the bug bites us too. Plus, Jeff Driskel isn’t walking through that tunnel for UF so almost anyone they put under center will be an improvement.

    I remember when I was tired of seeing us in the Music City Bowl. But I’ll gladly take it to end this dry spell.
