Sports Illustrated puts Kentucky in top-ten, calls the Cats “elite”

Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, Clemson, LSU, Notre Dame, Stanford, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and… Kentucky?

You got it.

Sports Illustrated released their latest week-four top-ten (plus one) rankings, and your Kentucky Wildcats found themselves right there in the pack of elite at No. 10 in the nation. Yes, seriously. No. 10.

They couldn’t help but mention star running back Benny Snell when justifying their ranking for the Cats:

The Wildcats certainly looked for real on Saturday against a very talented Mississippi State team. Benny Snell carried 25 times for 165 yards and four touchdowns and then responded to the previous week’s Twitter beef with Mississippi State players with some solid Photoshop work.

Arguably the second-biggest star of the day, Josh Allen, received high praise, as well.

Meanwhile, Kentucky linebacker Josh Allen was virtually unblockable. He had six tackles, including two for loss, and blew up Mississippi State plays all night. The Wildcats next face South Carolina, a team they’ve beaten in four consecutive meetings. Still, the Gamecocks can knock Kentucky back into the ranks of the unranked if the Wildcats aren’t prepared.

We’ll have the official updated rankings later today. Until then, enjoy seeing your Wildcats sitting right next to the best of the best.

With the way they played last night, they deserve it.

Well deserved. What about the AP and coaches poll?

They aren’t out yet. Probably in the next few hours. My guess is that the AP poll won’t be so generous. Somewhere ranked 15-20. Just my guess.

Coaches poll comes out at 1 and AP comes out at 2

Definitely top 20, maybe top 15, but probably not top 10 just yet

Based on this year’s performance (not history), they definitely belong in the top 10. They are soundly beating ranked teams at home and on the road, and have the talent to keep it up. Stoops finally getting results for all that great recruiting.

Absolute domination last night. They have made a believer out of me now. I truly believe the Georgia game is now winnable if we stay healthy.

Where are the Booby Petrino lovers and Stoops haters today? Come on out and claim your ignorance.

One week at a time, focus on the things they can control. We see how they have responded to being disrespected, now they are going to be getting love and praise. Great game, keep it together, we believe in blue!

15-20 is prob where they’ll be, but if I’m wearing my blue tinted glasses I think they should be higher…separately, I wanna see an updated map of dominance!!

One game at a time like Miller45 said. They need to come out strong against S Carolina and do the same thing smack them in the mouth and let Benny and the O-Line run it down there throats!! S Carolina’s weakness on offense is when Bentley gets pressured out of the pocket. I think Josh Allen should have a field day. Is it Saturday yet?!

I love Coach Stoops attitude that tonight we played better than the other team and in 7days we will have to go out and prove it again. One game at a time. Now let’s line up and see how we stack up against S. Carolina

Congrats to the coaches and the team for getting off to a great start and getting a lot of attention. Well deserved. Hard work pays off. I trust our coaches to reel our guys in here and keep them focused on the big prize–winning the East. Handling success is just as important as handling adversity. The team now has a taste of what it feels like, so hopefully they will learn from this and let it motivate them to charge ahead and do some great things this year. Go cats!
