South Carolina holding a blackout for the Kentucky game because of course

Today in “Saw That Coming”: South Carolina just announced plans to hold a blackout for its game vs. Kentucky on September 16.

SEC teams calling for blackouts/whiteouts/etc. vs. Kentucky is a tradition usually reserved for basketball, but after losing to the Cats three years straight, the Gamecocks are pulling out all of the stops. Add in the fact that the game is taking place under the lights, the growing buzz around South Carolina, and freaking “Sandstorm” and Kentucky’s got one heck of a trip to Columbia in front of them.

Guess we’re just gonna have to go down there and win.

We did that because we were a notch below them at the time and needed an edge. So yeah, it’s the same thing.

Can being the object of special “color-out” games be used as a sign to measure progress. How many such games in one season before we are a major program? Three? Four? Five?

I think the competitive advantage of a team’s fanbase wearing the same color clothing is highly overstated.
