University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Shannon Dawson mentioned as potential candidate for Louisiana-Monroe job

I don’t know how up you are on your Louisiana-Monroe news, but apparently, the Warhawks fired head coach Todd Berry on Saturday following a 59-21 loss to Arkansas State. The search is on for a new head coach and today, The News Star’s Adam Hunsucker listed Shannon Dawson as a potential candidate.

Dawson is a Louisiana native and coached at Southeastern Louisiana at the beginning of his career, so the move wouldn’t be totally off base; however, as even Hunscuker notes, it’s not like Dawson has a lot to brag about after this season, pointing out that UK’s currently 109th in the FBS in scoring. Ouch, baby. Also problematic: money. Berry made $200,000 less than Dawson currently makes at Kentucky.

The potential long-term job security of Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops could be a factor here, but so could money. It’s very doubtful ULM could approach the kind of pay day Dawson is already receiving at Kentucky. The best strategy ULM could take here is to sell the opportunity to be a head coach and the chance to get out of a situation that could go south at in Lexington. Of course it’s also fair to point out the ‘Cat’s offensive struggles under Dawson are part of the reason for their struggles.

Right now, could Dawson “taking the leap” to his first head coaching job be a win-win for both parties?

Who do you have in mind as the next OC?

^ A perceived lack of better options is a terrible reason to continue doing something that is not working. It’s not even a matter of giving the guy time to implement his system; he has proven to me that he has no clue with his comments when questioned about various bonehead play calls. No way is Dawson the only guy who could and would do this job.

Next OC? Hal Mumme. If Mumme would have had even a decent defense, UK would have won a lot of games.

I think Dawson might be getting a raw deal right now. I think Stoops is handcuffing him and what he wants to do. Watch the 1st half against Louis-Lafayette and tell me that offense resembles anything we’ve tried to do since. Not even close!

There is a good reason for the offense looking different. It even looked different in the 2nd half of that game because their defense made adjustments. Dawson’s offense is built around power running and throwing the deep pass. Against SEC caliber defenses that bring pressure, an offensive line like UK’s cannot give the QB time for deep routes to develop. A good coordinator can adjust his offense to better succeed. Dawson has tried to run the same system all season with little success. That includes a 40 yard pass play on 4th and 1 against Vandy. His famous mantra is”but if it worked you would have loved it”. If my aunt had balls she would be my uncle!

To answer the question: yes it’s a win-win. I really would love to see a new philosophy take over the team in terms of offense.

really people? 3 new OC’s in three years? Just NO.

      Sadly, this ^^^

Having 3 OCs in 4 seasons would not be good for recruiting and not good for the current players. Yes, you can say that we lost OCs due to them becoming HCs, but if I was an offensive skill guy I would want congruity.

I think you mean “continuity”. And yes offensive players and fans love continuity of sucking.

we all new kat eyes couldnt comment without referring to Louisville. instead of just admitting she’s the biggest of homers that support this joke of a program, she tries to make herself feel better about it by putting down Louisville

cats paw Petrino sucks, petino sucks, we don’t want them had a chance to hire Petrino but didn’t and are glad we didn’t. Your school is the laughing stock of all college sports right now the 3 P’s are not something we are interested in. Petrino, Pitino, and Prostitutes.

Do not listen to the negative talk on this page these people are hacks and liars and just do not want you to take him away from us. I am sure Stoops will give you a glowing recommendation and assure you of his coaching prowess.

I don’t think Dawson is really the one to blame for the offensive woes this season, as Neil Brown’s offense had the exact same problems last year. So, you have two coaches who both have great reputations of being masterminds on offense and have succeeded everywhere else they had been. Clearly the problem is not with them. Brown never had the personnel to even attempt to run the air raid, and I truly believe that Dawson wanted to run the air raid offense this season, but realized that Towles was simply not good enough to run it. The most important aspect of the air raid offense is having a QB that can accurately make quick short and mid-range throws. Towles is one of the worst college QBs I have ever seen at making those throws…………he is far more accurate at the deep throws, which is very unusual. And I believe Dawson has been handcuffed into having to play Towles, whether by Stoops or someone higher up. I would very much like for Dawson to come back next year, and see what he can do with a different QB, hopefully Barker.

Maybe it is time to totally dump the ideal of an air raid offense as all the top teams in the nation do not run it. Time UK played football and not hope ball.

I think it’s pretty apparent the UL-Monroe AD doesn’t have the cable package that includes the SEC Network….

The real question is, what can UK throw in along with Dawson to sweeten the deal?

This will never happen but if Dawson leaves or is let go I’d love to see Steve Spurrier as UK OC. The one thing this staff lacks is experience and maybe it’d be a nice fit for steve to not have to be the boss and he can suit back call plays and help teach the other coaches. My thinking is also UK is running out of time to get this thing going we can’t take on another coach for on the job training they need to be ready to go from day 1.

Look lets all be real for a min.. Dawson was a bad hire, no question. As a matter of fact, if he stays(which he will) it may bring the end of Stoops as head coach. That’s how bad he is. Also how can the coaches really say they know whats going on during the game when you get tricked like they did against Vandy last week? They really know whats going on! They are so confused, running the side lines during the game., have no clue period. Just sucks for us real Cat fans. Thank goodness we have Cal, and BB is back..
