SDS: The One Position Kentucky needs to Improve On

Our friends at Saturday Down South, have given each SEC team which position, on the field or on the sidelines that they must improve this offseason. For Kentucky? They feel the Cats must improve upon their secondary, especially with the losses of Marcus McWilson and Blake McClain.

The Wildcats aren’t losing a lot, but safety Marcus McWilson and nickel back Blake McClain are two valuable pieces on the way out. Coach Mark Stoops engineered a breakthrough season in Lexington last fall, leading the Wildcats to their first bowl game since 2010. If the Cats are to go bowling in back-to-back years, they’ll need Stoops to work his magic again with a secondary.

What do you think? Does Kentucky need to improve its’ secondary more than any other position? Let me know on Twitter @GormleyKSR or in the comment section below. Also, be sure check out the remainder of the article from SDS.

Clearly they have no clue. DT is by far our worst. Besides Jordan Jones our linebackers need improvement.

Yes our d-line needs the most work. We have zero pass rush! Idk if they’re not blitzing or not good enough to get to the qb.

Our punting game needs the most work. A good punter can pin an opponent, switch fields, and prevent big special teams plays. A punt should never land on our side of the 50 yard line.

This nonsense is what comes of “experts” who function from a distance commenting about the delicate balance that make sup a defensive unit. Of course defensive line is where we need to most improvement both in quality and depth. There are sufficient parts form last years team when you include redshirts – and the incoming class has some help too.
Vince – please get us another DT – I realize there are a few coming in already but in the SEC, you can never have too many run-stopping defensive tackles or break away running backs.

Agree with all of the above. Dline needs major upgrade and depth. LB second and punting 3rd. All are way less of a need than the secondary.

I agree with ClayW. on the defensive side… no doubt about it NT/DT… whichever name you want to give to the position. It is nice that Stoops have 4 DEs in this year’s recruiting class but the Cats MUST stop the run up the middle. Since Stoops and company didn’t try to add a NT/DT from the juco ranks they must feel confident with Pringle, Elam and fill-in-the-blank.

D line no doubt about it. A better pass rush improves or DBs also, as they don’t have to cover as long. SDS blew this one.
