SCOOP: Mike Stoops could be final addition to Mark Stoops’ 2020 Coaching Staff

Mark Stoops is on the verge of completing his 2020 coaching staff. Ryan Lemond has the scoop.

A journalist at heart, Ryan Lemond shared this on Twitter Saturday morning:

Mark’s older brother Mike spent 2019 working for Nick Saban as a defensive analyst at Alabama after serving as Bob Stoops’ defensive coordinator at Oklahoma for seven seasons. Mark previously worked for Mike when he was the head coach at Arizona. Mark called the Wildcats’ defense for Mike for six seasons before moving on to Florida State.

In short, the Stoops brothers have successfully worked together for years. After losing one veteran former head coach from the defensive staff, adding another veteran Stoops knows well to replace Dean Hood makes perfect sense.

Scoop’s reputation received a slight blemish when Walter McCarty did not retain his position at Evansville. Don’t let that cloud your belief in Scoop. Remember, he was the first to report Derrick LeBlanc was departing for Arkansas and was the first to mention Anwar Stewart as his replacement.

They actually weren’t very successful at Arizona, but ok

The only time Mike had a good defense was when Mark was his coordinator. Arizona would have been better but not even Sonny Dykes could recruit there.

He worked all those years at Oklahoma, and they have to score 70 to win a game

The guy hasn’t been successful anywhere. Even Alabama got worse just because he walked through the door.

So I guess that’s why Saban hired him. He does have a habit of hiring bad coach’s . Lol

Most of you guys need to stick with basketball. Mike is a hell of a coach and he would be a tremendous addition to Kentucky’s Football team. Mark knows what he’s doing and this would be a home run hire if you ask me.

There’s no better minds in college football than the Stoops family and Mike has taught more young men about this game than most people ever know. I say bring him in Mark, and keep up the great work.

I’ll trust Mark Stoops to get the right staff. He’s certainly doing lots of things right to get this team where it is.

Mike is not coming to UK to be a special teams coach long term. He’s going to wait till White leaves then take the DC position. I’ll pass.

Or Mark is just throwing his brother a bone and at the same time getting an experience coach who he can trust. If you can bring in a guy who’s been a head coach and he’ll do what Hood did, ST coordinator and position coach on defense, then you’d be crazy not to. He’ll probably work out like Hood. Do a very good job, contribute to our continued success and be gone in a few years to bigger opportunities.
