Rich get Richer: Georgia Football Adds Two High Profile Transfers

Lost in the middle of a surprisingly busy first day of June around the BBN was the biggest story in college football. Kirby Smart had two areas of need less than 100 days away from the start of the college football season. He responded by signing two of the highest-ranked players in the transfer portal.

After losing star wide receiver George Pickens, the perennial SEC East Champs added Arik Gilbert, the highest-ranked tight end recruit in the history of the 247 Sports Composite. As a true freshman at LSU the former five-star caught 35 passes for 368 yards and two touchdowns in eight games. He’s the ideal big target to bail out J.T. Daniels when the quarterback gets in trouble.

Smart also brought in a cornerback, but not just any cornerback. Most consider Gilbert to be the top-ranked player in the portal this offseason, but Pro Football Focus actually gives that nod to Derion Kendrick, who at one point last season was considered by some as a potential first round NFL Draft pick in 2021. Kendrick, a former wide receiver, ultimately decided to return to college for one more year. He’ll open the season with Georgia playing against his old team, Clemson.

The gap between the CFB Playoff haves and have-nots is not shrinking anytime soon. It’s not great news for Kentucky, but on the other hand, the heat is on for Kirby Smart to bring a National Title back to Athens. This year could be “Championship or bust” for the Bulldogs, and this SEC Football fan would love to see the Georgia faithful react to the latter.

Nick. No offense, but unless it is a Kentucky player who transferred to Georgia, most Kentucky fans could care less.

I disagree, somewhat. Everyone knows UK has to close the talent gap with UGA & UF if they’re ever going to make it to the Benz Dome in December, so this is relevant IMO.

AirForceOne: Nick Roush doesn’t need me to defend him, but damn you’re myopic. This is not an article about Clemson or Ohio State getting richer. It’s Georgia. Newsflash: We play Georgia every year. They’re in the same conference as us. They’re in the same division as us. The road to the SEC title game has to go through them most years. It doesn’t hurt to keep up with what our opponents are doing. Some might even call this beneficial. At the very least it’s interesting.

So we are complaining about something the basketball Cats are doing relentlessly now? Don’t be a crybaby Roush. It’s not unfair. Is how the game is

Although he has written articles of a complaining nature in the past, I think this is just informing, not complaining (the headline notwithstanding, the headline is accurate).

@AirForceOne, you crashed and burned with that comment. What FinnaGoHAM said is absolutely correct. We have to know what is happening with other teams we play to better understand where we stand in relation to them.
