REPORT: DJ Eliot is headed to Colorado

dj-eliot

Here’s some breaking news for your Wednesday afternoon: FootballScoop.com is reporting that UK defensive coordinator DJ Eliot is headed to Colorado “in a similar capacity.”

After the season ended, Mark Stoops suggested to the media that he wanted to keep his staff intact as much as possible and was even asking for raises for them; however, it’s no secret that Kentucky’s defense wasn’t great early on this season, to the point Stoops had to step in and assist for the second half of the year. Eliot has been Kentucky’s defensive coordinator since Mark Stoops took the head coaching job in 2013.

More on this story as it develops…

[Football Scoop]

UPDATE (3:52 PM): The report has now been confirmed by the Herald-Leader’s Jen Smith and SEC Country’s Kyle Tucker, the latter of which notes Stoops is focused on the 2017 class and is no hurry to replace Eliot.

Dear Stoops, please don’t promote from within. Hire someone who knows and understands the importance of a 4 man front, especially in the run heavy SEC!!!

I knew this was going to happen and Kudo’s for Stoops in letting him slip away.
Actually it was better for both parties, Eliot gets to save face, because after Stoops stepped in, Eliot’s cred was gone, and would have been second guessed on every play.
Boulder is not a bad place to work either, and I am envious on that aspect. Good for him, wish him luck, and hopefully we can get a very experienced DC that has coached at the highest of levels.
Bottom line: A DC, learning on the job, in the SEC, is a disaster.
Credit goes to him for helping to get the players in here, and helping to build a stronger foundation, than what we have had for a long time.
Good news for both, again wish him well, except if they should ever play us while he is the DC.

Yea, good luck with Miss St’s DC

Who says you need a DC? Stoops can run the defense and he’d rather do that anyway.

Yeah, not having a special teams coach worked out well.

Since I live near Boulder and root against the Buffaloes this is great news. Our gain is CU’s loss. LOL!

I think Stoops will take time to fill the slot. He needs to get this one right. If he can get a good one so-be-it, but if not keep doing what he did later part of this year.

Stoops’ best move so far. Elliot was erogant and bad at his job, not a good combo.

Erogant; Isnt he the villian in the next” Game of Thrones” book?
I agree this opens the possibility for far better schemes on defense.
