Remember when the media picked Kentucky to finish fifth in the East last year?

With SEC Media Days taking place down in Birmingham this week, we will soon learn the media’s preseason poll for the league’s upcoming football season. And while we wait to see where the media ranks Kentucky among its opponents in the SEC East, let’s look back to last year when the media completely butchered its preseason prediction for the Wildcats.

2018 SEC Football Preseason Media Poll

SEC EAST SEC WEST
Georgia (271) Alabama (263)
South Carolina (8) Auburn (19)
Florida (4) Mississippi State (2)
Missouri Texas A&M
Kentucky (1) LSU
Tennessee (1) Ole Miss
Vanderbilt Arkansas

Actual finish:

SEC EAST SEC WEST
Georgia (11-3, 7-1) Alabama (14-1, 8-0)
Kentucky (10-3, 5-3) Texas A&M (9-4, 5-3)
Florida (10-3, 5-3) LSU (10-3, 5-3)
South Carolina (7-6, 4-4) Mississippi State (8-5, 4-4)
Missouri (8-5, 4-4) Auburn (8-5, 3-5)
Vanderbilt (6-7, 3-5) Ole Miss (5-7, 1-7)
Tennessee (5-7, 2-6) Arkansas (2-10, 0-8)

Keep this in mind when the media disrespects Mark Stoops’ program again.

I’ll also keep in mind we lost 12 starters and 2 game changers from last years squad, and have an unproven QB when all the weight is on his shoulders… You guys keep beating this #FreeMoney drum, and I hope you’re right… But it’s reaching such a fever pitch with some fans, that we are building this team up so big, they’re destined to fall short.

Why can’t we be ok with rebuilding for a year… 10 years ago, losing 12 players from our lineup relegated us to 2-10. Now, it’s 6-6… Does anyone not realize what a step this is?

I’m all for crapping on the media but this isn’t necessarily saying we would finish 5th. In fact it’s just a poll of who would win the SEC East. 271 of the journalist polled were right. Kudos to the 1 that picked Kentucky for seeing something special in them though.

Rebuild ? We have “next up”. This isn’t your Cincinnati Reds. Big dog has said TE might be better than CJ. 3 deep minimum in back field. Bowden is a beast Terry is in his second year. You want a rebuild? Go cheer for Ohio state, urban has messed up that team. We are perennial SEC competitors barring major staff changes.
