UK’s final open practice rolls on, and now that Patrick Towles is officially the starting quarterback, the question now shifts to who will be his backup. Reese Phillips is currently taking the second team reps and Drew Barker third team reps. Stoops will speak to reporters here in a bit, but does this mean that Drew Barker is headed for a redshirt season?

Giving Drew a year to develop and learn the system without fear of injury is a luxury Kentucky hasn’t had until now, and back when he committed, redshirting him was considered to be Stoops’ original plan. It’s not quite the sexy gamble everyone wanted, but it’s probably the smartest decision, especially when you consider the impact a redshirt year had for Towles.

Stay tuned…

Why does it look like Neil Brown has peed his pants in that photo?

Much like the alleged face on Mars, this is merely a trick of shadow and light. At least, that is the official story…

I’m not seeing it. Did you zoom in on his penis? Why are you focused on that?

At least they named a starter.Towles and Barker were both highly rec. and would probably started at other schools as freshman. For some reason Ky will not do it. If you use the excuse someone will get hurt then you are already in trouble. You can’t play worried about getting hurt.

the only schools they would’ve started as freshmen would be small schools that most of the country hasn’t heard of.

After a year and a half Stoops has figured out that a qb that wasn’t better than whitlow OR smith last year is now going to lead him to the promised land……..barker can’t beat out a walk-on …….the team strength is returning 4of 5 offensive linemen who were terrible last year (see max smith’s shoulder)……a jc player (on campus for a week )is the savior at linebacker (do we need more than one?)……..our best dlman is a fat freshman……. get ready to get your wildcat asses kicked again……..

L1C6: At least he knows a lot about our team. I couldn’t tell you one player on Louisville’s roster, because frankly, I don’t give a SHIT. He must troll often. Sad, really….

I guess we can say Barker is a marketing genius with his little diary and fueling his hype machine……

Do we actually have a coach that WAS a QB at some time that works with these guys on mechanics, footwork, etc.? It seems like the returning guys improved dramatically in the off season under private coaches. Neal Brown was a wide receiver. Shouldn’t an ex-QB (Couch, Lorenzen, Woodson) be on the staff to coach the QBs?

I’m really hopeful that drew sticks around, it will be hard to ride the bench for two years behind towles.

Your user name awakes memories from long ago. There was once an Ollies Trolly somewhere around Limestone/Euclid in 1975 – I bought and ate an Ollieburger from there, resulting in vomiting and unpleasant lower digestive tract experiences for the next 48 hours so. I’m not blaming a business that went kaput almost 40 years ago, but I would like to say just a word of appreciation for pointing me to a lifetime of avoiding fast food.

Wow, if your barker you have to be regretting staying home and feeling just a little bit screwed. Thanks for going out and help sell the program and helping us get great recruits now enjoy third string. What a slap in the face. Thanks kid but we will go with our third string quarterback from last year. wow nice message.

By “screwed”, what you are really trying to say is “failed to win the job,” It’s people like you who propogate this entitlement ideal this is so prevelant among each successive younger generation.
