After nearly defeating Florida last year, the silver lining was the breakout performance by Garrett “Juice” Johnson. Relatively unheard of by most fans, Juice returned to his homestate with an explosive 6 catches for 154 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Juice was excited to show out in front of his friends and family, but insisted there were no bad feelings for Florida, a team he watched as a kid but spurned him in the recruiting process. Today he will once again be a thorn in the side of the Gators. The slot receiver can take advantage of Florida’s vulnerable middle, proving they should have taken a second look at the kid from Winter Garden, Florida.
He’s not the only Florida player on Kentucky’s roster that didn’t get a second look from the Gators. Seven other Florida natives may have received some mail, but never a coveted scholarship offer.
- RB Jojo Kemp
- OT Jordan Swindle (Captain)
- WR Jeff Badet
- WR Alex Montomery
- CB Kendall Randolph
- OG Nick Haynes
- MLB Nico Firios
They may never say it publicly, but rest assured they want to prove their worth today. Jojo and Badet could join Juice as the big playmakers to turn the tide against Florida.
Some recruiting misses could come back to bite the Gators. Last week, Chris Westry was the freshman of the week in the SEC. Today, his 247 Crystal Ball still thinks he’s Florida bound.
The Gators tried to grab some of Kentucky’s top talent for themselves. Ryan Timmons picked the Cats over Florida and Ohio State. Bowling Green native, LB Eli Brown, grew up a Florida football fan. His room was even painted blue and orange. Joker Phillips was from right down the road in Franklin, yet never offered him a scholarship.
These players could have been wearing a different shade of blue today. Instead, their revenge could come in the form of a snapped streak.
