ESPN: Patrick Towles player of game, Juice the unsung hero

Patty Ice showed us who our starting quarterback should be in leading the Cats to victory last night. David Ching from ESPN knows it. In a post about what the win means for Kentucky and what the loss means for Mizzou, Ching makes Towles the player of the game and Garrett Johnson the “unsung hero”.

“Towles hadn’t been particularly sharp lately, but he was on target against a solid Mizzou defense. Towles completed 22 of 27 passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns”

“Kentucky Garrett Johnson was already having a solid night before a fourth-quarter drive where the Wildcats pushed their lead from 14-10 to 21-10. Johnson made a brilliant 35-yard catch, then a 6-yard reception and then a catch for a 24-yard gain on third-and-10 at the Mizzou 29.”

I beg to differ…but IMO the unsung hero of this game was the Kentucky defense. I’m happy that Patrick’s performance got him the game ball but I sure hope BBN will stop for just a moment and realizes that the UK DEFENSE held Missouri to 13 points last night….13!!! Defense wins football games. UK defense has a history of giving up 30 points (or more) a game. Of all the things that make me proud of this team it is the improvement (against Florida too!) in the defensive effort. What an amazing and wonderful turn around. These guys finally look like they are taking pride in their performance. If they can continue to hold teams under 21 points a game, they have a chance to win ’em all, and if they do win them all, we will all know who we MUST heep the praise on…the vastly improved defensive team! With any victory, the defense will rarely get the glory, but they most certainly have the pride. GREAT JOB UK DEFENSE…you may take your bow.

I know who we should “heep” the praise on: Coach Mark Stoops for his ability to recruit and coach these kids. He’s just getting started, bro. 😉

Yes, spot on, and we have to give credit to Stoops and crew for their teaching those young men how to defend. That 13 points was aided by the con-call of 3 of our defenders being held by MO. It was a horrible non-call, but the defense didn’t let it bother them getting stop after stop. I am really happy for the win.

Should have finished the sentence after being held to read “when MO had the passing touchdown”.
