No one improved more during the Spring than Patrick Towles, and he attributed a lot of his success to putting in additional work outside of practice. Just because he had a good Spring game doesn’t mean he’s going to slow his roll.
Towles is spending the week in sunny San Diego working with Quarterback Coach George Whitfield Jr. Whitfield’s resume is lengthy and very impressive, with Sports Illustrated calling Whitfield, “The go-to-coach for big name QB’s Ben Roethlisberger, Cam Newton and Andrew Luck.” There are a myriad of college quarterbacks joining Towles this week, including Tennessee’s Justin Worley and Nebraska’s Johnny Stanton.
Pat had a fire lit under his butt during his redshirt season. Knowing he needed a faster release and a more compact throwing motion, Pat spent much of his off time working with quarterback coach Donny Walker. The extra work has brought him one step closer to his ultimate goal of becoming the starting quarterback for his home state school.
“I’m a totally different player than I was last year,” Towles said after the Spring Game. “It’s night and day. I’m excited about where we’re at as a team. I’m excited about where we’re at as an offense. I’m excited about where we’re going.”
After working with Whitfield, things can only keep getting better for Patty Ice. (especially if he finds who he’s looking for in California)
