One of the best pass rushers in the history of the University of Kentucky will be honored at this year’s SEC Championship Game. Today the SEC announced Oliver Barnett is Kentucky’s SEC Legend.
Barnett terrorized SEC quarterbacks at Kentucky from 1986-89. A two-time All-SEC selection, Barnett was an All-American in his final year at UK.
In his four years he set school records with 43 tackles for loss, 26 quarterback sacks, and 12 forced fumbles. Josh Allen broke his record for sacks last year, but not even Allen could accumulate enough tackles for loss to surpass Barnett.
Barnett was inducted into the UK Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013. Barnett played in a Super Bowl for the Buffalo Bills in 1994 and he still lives in Lexington. His son, Elijah, is a senior outside linebacker for the Cats.
