Ohio State tells fans there will be no tailgating, 20 percent capacity inside

The verdict is still out on how many fans will be allowed in Kroger Field for Kentucky football games this fall, but up in Ohio the Buckeyes now know how the crowd will look in the Horseshoe.

Today Ohio State told its season ticket holders via letter that the crowd for home football games will be limited to 20 percent capacity. The letter also said all fans in attendance must wear a face covering and distance themselves in the stands, although it did not mention how the ticket distribution and seating will be decided.

Furthermore, and this is a big one, Ohio State announced there will be no tailgating or the traditional pregame festivities at the nearby basketball arena. 20 percent butts in seats is as good as it will get for one of college football’s biggest programs.

This will not impact us in Kentucky because we aren’t Ohio State fans, but it does paint a picture of what we may expect in Lexington when UK is ready to announce the policies for its 2020 season. On that, we stay tuned.

I suspect this will play a significant role in how this season plays out. Without big rabid crowds, it will even the playing field on road games.

As a season ticket holder for UK but living in Columbus area this does not mean as much for UK. The cases in Ohio are out of control and Columbus is leading the way, Columbus probably has more cases than all of Kentucky. Plus 20 percent there is still 20,000 people. All they have done is what the Bengals told us weeks ago.

I’ll bet the 20% doesn’t count the luxury boxes!

I am a football season ticket holder that drives an RV from Memphis. They can kiss my a$ if I can’t tailgate from an RV.

They don’t care about your RV or your SUV, or your UFO. You can fly a spaceship in there if you want to, but they still ain’t gonna let you tailgate.
