Nine Kentucky Wildcats Named All-SEC by Phil Steele

When Kentucky fans flip through Phil Steele’s 2020 College Football Preview, on the SEC page they will find nine Wildcats on the All-SEC Team.

Kentucky’s All-SEC class is headlined by a pair of players from the Big Blue Wall, Drake Jackson and Darian Kinnard. 2019 Ray Guy Award winner Max Duffy rounds out UK’s first team selections. A look at Kentucky’s entire All-SEC crew:

  • Drake Jackson, First Team Center
  • Darian Kinnard, First Team Offensive Tackle
  • Max Duffy, First Team Punter
  • Landon Young, Second Team Offensive Tackle
  • Quinton Bohanna, Second Team Defensive Lineman
  • Boogie Watson, Second Team Linebacker
  • Josh Ali, Fourth Team Wide Receiver
  • Josh Paschal, Fourth Team Defensive Line
  • Kelvin Joseph, Fourth Team Defensive Back

Even with four different All-SEC teams, nine players is a lot of players. For comparison’s sake, Tennessee is behind Kentucky with eight picks and ahead of UK’s historic 2018 season only four Wildcats made Phil Steele’s preseason All-SEC team — Benny Snell, Josh Allen, Mike Edwards and C.J. Conrad.

Of the Wildcats on Steele’s All-SEC, the most surprising addition is Joseph. Plenty of hype has followed Bossman Fat from Baton Rouge. Even though almost all of UK’s second-ranked secondary returns in 2020, after conversations with UK’s coaches Steele selected Joseph as the best of the bunch.

There are two players omitted from Steele’s preseason list that will likely play their way into contention for postseason All-SEC honors, linebacker DeAndre Square and safety Yusuf Corker, the Wildcats’ top two returning tacklers.

In my opinion, Kelvin Boss man Fats will earn and far exceed his preseason accolades if we do get to see out Cats take the field this fall. BUT, Phil Steele is still….lol, I know its corny, but could anyone else of not used the pun? Anyways, I digress, Phil is just like the rest of the national media IMO. Yes he does dive deeper than 90% of the rest but not by an insane amount. He still rides the same traditional powerhouse narrative. I think anyone who has eyes and even a mediocre inclination for the game and quality skill sets can see, every single magazine that DOESN’T have Cedric Dort or Echols as part of ATLEAST 3rd team but if we stay in reality, 2nd team IMO. Both undersized for a Stoops 2ndary, yet both stepped up to the challenge and succeeded in a league with the largest, nost physical and athletic Wideouts in the country. Along with Corker and the rest of an extremely talented, extremely well coached but also after the loss of Davonte Robinson, extremely inexperienced. All they did was voast one of the top-5/10 2ndaries in the entire country. Yes, our forced offensive style of play had some sway over the stats as well ad the weather, but teams still tried to throw on us, and when they did, we shut most of it down. I think both Dort and Echols will excel once again along with Kelvin Joseph, Yusuf Corker AND our very own hometown bread Davonte Robinson back up to speed. It would seem, again, just my opinion but, arebwe quietly making a push for the new DBU? already PunterU, and LBU AS WELL AS OLINEU in my opinion. Makes sense DBs will be next to join the fold. DLINEU will also be coming within the next several years. We are quietly amassing Elite talent in every level of both offense and defense. Enjoy it my fellow Cats fans. These times hace never been seen at this univwrsity since the Bear walked the fields along time ago. Go Cats!!!!

UK will have a running back on the all-conference team. The O-line will make sure of that.
