Christian Lewis is an incredible athlete. We’ve known as much since long before Jon Sumrall fended off Ole Miss and Texas A&M to sign the talented wide receive from Pleasant Grove, Al. Despite being aware of that well-known fact, Lewis continues to shock me by showing off his amazing athleticism in different ways.
The first thing that jumped off of Lewis’ high school tape was his ability to high point a football and make contested catches. In his senior season he proved that’s he’s much more than a jump-ball catcher.
In 15 games last fall Lewis had 70 receptions for 1,235 yards and 18 touchdowns to lead Pleasant Grove to a second straight Alabama 5A State Championship Game appearance. In addition to the big plays he made on jump balls, he showed off a few double moves, some toe drag swag and the ability to just run right past defenders. This is high class Alabama high school football. They aren’t chumps, yet Lewis makes them look slow and stupid.
In his final high school highlight tape, there’s one poor soul that no longer has ankles. Lewis stole them and left the rest of the defensive back’s body on the turf. It’s one of many highly-entertaining plays from this impressive montage.
But wait, THERE’S MORE!
I told you Lewis is showing off his athleticism in a variety of ways. He also does it on the hardwood. Lewis is a 6-foot-4 guard that stalks his prey to swat shots into the stands. He makes dunking look easy, rising effortlessly through the air to the rim.
Lewis will make the move to Lexington this summer. He’s one of more than a handful of new additions to UK’s wide receiver room. If you learned anything from today’s edition of Movie Monday, it’s that the Wildcats’ pass-catchers are getting a significant upgrade next fall.
