Mark Stoops is inching closer to completing his final coaching hire of the 2020 offseason.
More than two weeks ago Scoop Lemond shared that Mike Stoops “might soon replace” Dean Hood as an assistant coach, helping in the secondary and on special teams. The scuttlebutt temporarily died down until this afternoon.
Football Scoop reports that Mike Stoops’ addition to his brother’s staff is “close” to being complete at UK. “We understand the hiring is not done, as it must be approved by Kentucky’s board of trustees to clear nepotism concerns, per university policy.”
Mike Stoops spent the 2019 season working for Nick Saban as an Alabama defensive analyst. The two Stoops brothers previously worked together when Mark was Mike’s defensive coordinator at Arizona from 2004-09.
After speaking to multiple sources, KSR has learned this report from Football Scoop is premature. No hire is imminent. Carry on.
