Media Predicts Kentucky to Finish Sixth in the SEC East, Four Named All-Conference

As expected, the preseason polls are not kind to the Kentucky Wildcats.

The media members gathered at the 2019 edition of SEC Media Days predicted Kentucky to finish sixth in the SEC, just a few votes behind the Tennessee Volunteers. The Cats received one first-place vote after 2018’s ten-win season.

SCHOOL POINTS
Georgia (233) 1789
Florida (21) 1499
Missouri (3) 1149
South Carolina (1) 883
Tennessee (1) 804
Kentucky (1) 798
Vanderbilt 358

Alabama was the prohibitive favorite to win the conference, yet again.

SCHOOL POINTS
Alabama (253) 1813
LSU (5) 1493
Texas A&M 1268
Auburn (1) 1090
Mississippi State (1) 769
Ole Miss 504
Arkansas 343

Four Wildcats were named preseason All-SEC, but no one was picked higher than the third team. On the offensive line Logan Stenberg and Drake Jackson made the cut, followed by Kash Daniel at linebacker and Lynn Bowden as an all-purpose back. You’ll find the complete preseason All-SEC teams here.

We’re still paying for decades of mediocrity… but things are changing. UT is still benefiting from years past of relevance… this is also slowly changing.

Every year there is so much love for USCjr. If they have the talent to put them this high every year then the coaching must be that bad. Every year they prove they cant live up to the hype and make these voters look stupid. When are they going to realize they are not the team they think they will be and start putting a ranking on them that they deserve. Now at best Kentucky should be 4th but this year will be the deciding factor on weather to start believing in this program or for them to just say it was a miracle year that everything just happened to come together and some other teams where a little down and that’s why they did so good. If we can get to 7 or 8 wins I think that will force people to start taking this program seriously or continue to look like idiots by picking teams that only have history on their side and not recent production. Lets get this season started, time to show the SEC we can keep this thing rolling and we ain’t going no where.

Why does this story warrant a KSR alert?
We’re playing in the big boys league. One 10 win season doesn’t make you a perennial power especially after graduating so many.

      12:39 pm July 19, 2019 Permalink

Who said we are a perennial power? I think people have a problem with the disrespect shown to the Kentucky program after beating Mizzou and USCjr 4 to 5 years in a row. I don’t think anybody is saying we should be number 1 or 2 but to be that big of an underdog to those teams seems pretty disrespectful.

No… They ARE saying that. Look above. People talking 11-1. 10-2… That’d be good enough for first or second. That’s his point. People are acting like we are a sleeping giant that’s going to surprise everyone. I hope they’re right… But the staunch #FreeMoney campaign KSR has endorsed is going to make some of these other programs insufferable to deal with if we were to fall short.

We had one great season, and people think we’ve arrived. We make fun of other schools for doing that in basketball.

Not a huge football guy, and of course I was stoked last year, but you’re very accurate here. We make fun of other SEC schools when they take a little too much pride in one or two good seasons in a row. I’m a fan of Stoops and I think it can be objectively proven that he’s got Kentucky football moving in the right direction to eventually be good to great year in and year out, but I think it’s a bit premature to act like we are Georgia or UT. Are we getting a little disrespected? Yes, absolutely, but we really shouldn’t be acting like we’ve arrived fully.

Catfan, I see one comment about 11-1 come on now, you are reaching saying they are all saying this. Also not one person has said we are a perennial power. Stoops has taken us from 2 win seasons too at least 7 in the past three years. Nobody is saying we are a power house but three seasons in a row now we have got better and developed depth with recruiting and the development of those recruits. Hate on your own fan base all you want but I’m sure you were the same guy that wanted Brooks gone when he struggled at first as well as wanting Stoops gone in the middle of him trying to build this program up to something respectable.

      3:32 pm July 19, 2019 Permalink

Also Catfan if you can’t handle other fan bases talking trash then don’t be a fan of sports in general. You sound like you don’t have the heart for such a thing nor do we want your feelings to get hurt.

    • CatfaninCinci
      6:27 pm July 19, 2019 Permalink

You see one comment in this thread. Clearly then, you don’t read many football threads on here. Because KSR has been barking that 6.5 wins for UK this year is free money. I look at the schedule and just don’t see it. Not free anyway. We can do it, but it’ll be tough.

Secondly, it’s not that I’m that worried about smack talk from other fan bases as much as it is I want our fan base to be better than theirs is. I want them to realize we aren’t at the top. We haven’t been there. So quit acting like we have.

With you 100% Corder. No idea where these people pull this “everyone is saying…” stuff from. It’s right there so why lie or get over-dramatic?

Is this fanbase even able to handle success, if they are that scared to hear one person be an optimist? Gotta wonder

Let’s drag em kicking and screaming into the postseason!

South Carolina’s schedule is brutal, they may beat us and we still finish ahead of them in league. I’d put UK 4th or 5th but UK has allot of question marks on both side of the ball. The defense will fall off substantially without the best pass rusher UK has had in 40 years and a solid secondary that benefited from Josh Allen. The offense has to pick up the slack this year as last year that was not a 10 win offense. That was a 5 win offense with a once in a generation defense. The Tennessee and Missouri games are big for finishing high in the east.

    • CatfaninCinci
      1:55 pm July 19, 2019 Permalink

I agree mostly. I’m hoping the front 7 can absolutely dominate because our secondary is going to learn some tough lessons in year 1 for them. We might stuff the run well, but if we can’t stop the pass, we will be in trouble.

I look at this team, and I want to have faith that the program is to a point we can lose guys and reload. But 30 years of history is readying it’s jokes for me again. Every time I’ve ever got hyped for a football season, or started to believe, it’s been a painful lesson as to how foolish I am. I don’t want to feel foolish anymore. So I’m hedging until they make me believe.

Last year’s D was not a “once in a generation defense”

UK will haveba lot more and better defenses if people stop acting and thinking like it’ll never be better. They also need to not be cocky when it does continue to get better.
