You gotta love the timing of this ‘underhanded softball’ interview…

    1. We’ve beaten 3 unranked teams. One was an in-state team that was beating us at home at halftime.
    2. While the composure against Carolina was a breath of fresh air rarely seen on the gridiron by Kentucky teams… Deebo Samuel (their best player) was missing from the game for the 2nd half.

USC is not a team that will be ranked this year. They are certainly not be a good litmus test for SEC calibur away victories (there is no Steve Spurrier on that sideline).

Yet Matt asks the question, “there’s some big games coming up but we’ve seen a tremendous advancement from a few years ago”

    2013 – Stoops 1st year & expected misery induced – Record 2-10 (call it a wash)
2014 – Started the season 5-1 (lost final 6 games)
    2015 – Started the season 4-1 (went 1-6 in final 7 games)
2016 – Started the season 0-2 (Stoops job was on the line – Finished 7-4)

What exactly is Matt referring to here?? Tremendous advancement… We’re 3-0 against unranked teams & our biggest ‘consistent’ struggle is being noncompetitive against anyone in the top 40.

‘Tremendous’ advancement is when you consistently having winning seasons & your schedule shows victories against top 40 teams. We aren’t there… yet. Last season which was called ‘turned the corner’ on this website included only 1 win against a top 40 team (and most polarizing was that 1 win was the only one against a team with a winning record).

‘Tremendous advancement’ is “maybe” the kind of overhype you blurt if you beat a Florida team that has 9 scholarship players being suspended (and soon arrested for grand theft) at home and end the 30 year drought.

But it still doesn’t stick the next morning because you know what ‘tremendous advancement’ REALLY IS for this team.

Let’s have this sit down meeting with Mitch Barnyard on Sunday Nov 19th. That is really the only time you could consider it. Be willing to face the music Mitch.

The best statement to make to Mitch right now is… “here we are.”

Can we beat any of the 5 top 40 ranked teams on our record? Can we beat 3 of the 5? Can we beat several?

‘Tremendous advancement’ is when you can beat more than 50% of the top 40 teams you play. It’s when you have a winning record in the SEC. It’s when you aren’t having to BS the fanbase with wins over cupcakes to get into bowl games.

I’m not even saying you have to win the SEC East (let alone win the SEC Championship, or National Championship). We have to get to where we can beat more than 50% of our top 40 games (and definitely not drop any outside of that). We have to get to where we are consistently in the top 3 of the SEC East.

Let’s actually be ranked for once in a decade.

Last year we were in a 3 way tie for 2nd in the SEC East on paper (yet were beaten by the other teams – which technically means we were 4th).

Let’s save ‘Tremendous advancement’ for an actual face dollar assessment that comes hierarchically after ‘consistent advancement’, ‘steady advancement’, & ‘significant advancement’. They have 9 games and the clock starts now.
