Mark Stoops talked to his team about the streak, briefly

Earlier in the week, Mark Stoops said he wasn’t sure if he would talk about Kentucky’s 28-game losing streak to Florida with his team.

“I don’t know,” he told us. “I am not sure. I will go with my gut come meeting time.”

Today on the SEC coaches teleconference, Stoops confirmed he did indeed bring it up in that Monday team meeting.

“We brought it up. As I said last week, we’re not going to hide from those things. These kids know, they hear. There’s a lot of information out there on social media and they listen to you all and see what you write and everything else. So our players know.”

Stoops said he brought up the road losing streak before last week’s win at South Carolina, and the team ended that streak. But it’s still just talk and talk doesn’t make a difference. Preparation and execution are what will decide the outcome in the end.

“I talked about it briefly and it’s over with.”

Just so we’re clear, you don’t like Florida?

Most of the current roster’s parents hadn’t met when UK last beat Florida, so I’m sure they’re acutely aware of the opportunity in front of them. Not only that, but the guys from last year’s team are probably still stinging from last year’s game in Gainesville, and might be itching for a little payback.

The talent level between these two teams is as close as it’s been in 3 decades, the game is under the lights in CWS which is always a special atmosphere, the fans are finally becoming believers, the players are hyped.

You can feel it in the air around Lexington. It’s electric. It’s building. And it’s going to be spectacular.
