Nick Mullens is considered by some (including Freddie Maggard) the best pocket passer in college football. Southern Miss’ senior QB is on just about every preseason award watch list known to man, and on today’s SEC Coaches Teleconference, Mark Stoops simply raved about him.
“I don’t think there’s any doubt,” Stoops said when asked if Mullens is one of the best quarterbacks UK will face this season. “We’ll face some very talented quarterbacks, that’s for sure, but I have great respect for this kid. He is very good. Very poised. You can tell he has great vision. He has seen everything and what I’ve been very impressed with is how accurate he is and how beautifully he throws the deep balls. He just drops it in there in some tight windows. He’s been very impressive.”
“We’ll have our hands full with him,” Stoops added. “We’re going to have to win some one-on-ones. He’s a very talented quarterback and I definitely put him up there with the best ones we’ll play this year.”
Thankfully, Kentucky’s secondary is one of its strengths, but they’ll have their work cut out for them Saturday. Do your own scouting with some of Mullens’ highlights from last season below.
