By now, you’ve seen the video of Mark Stoops crowd surfing in the locker room at Faurot Field after Kentucky’s dramatic win over Missouri. This morning, Stoops joked that he needs to send the Tigers a check for the damage he caused after punching through the ceiling.
“Yeah, I forgot to send my check this morning. I was up a little higher than I thought.”

The video of Stoops crowd surfing has gone viral, the perfect illustration of Kentucky’s improbable 7-1 start. Stoops said he’s usually pretty reserved in the locker room but couldn’t help himself after the walk-off win.
“That was totally spontaneous. I generally don’t get overly excited in there, but the way we pulled that out, the way the guys were just having fun. It was in the moment. We had a lot of fun. You see how much confidence in them that they were going to catch me?”
Between the stress of the game, the crowd surfing, and the ceiling tile, Stoops spent part of Sunday in the training room with his players.
“I’m always a little banged up. I feel like I play after games. I’m getting old. I’m always sore. I really do, I feel like I play. The players always laugh at me, I always see them in there in the training room on Sunday. We’re all in there getting worked on.”
Totally worth it.
