Mark Stoops to earn $250K for each win the rest of the season

Mark Stoops has Kentucky on pace for its best season in decades, and he will be well compensated for his success if things keep up.

Thanks to a restructuring of Stoops’ contract in March of last year, Stoops’ incentives include a $250,000 bonus for each win after the sixth win in a single season. The Cats are currently 6-1 on the current season, so Stoops will receive a check for $250K with a win over Missouri on Saturday — then again if they beat Georgia, then again if they beat Tennessee, then again if they beat Middle Tennessee State, then again when they beat Louisville.

His bank account could get even fatter if Kentucky were to win the SEC East and play in Atlanta. He’d receive $100K for reaching the game and another $100K if his team could pull off the unthinkable by beating Alabama (or, hopefully, LSU).

Things get really wild if Stoops can lead Kentucky to the national championship, but let’s worry about Mizzou first.

Also, congrats to Stoops’ agent.

If KY reaches the SEC Championship game, Stoops and all his coaches should get 1,000,000.

Additionally, this will extend his contract another year, so factor a years salary into that bonus money as well.

Not sure what you mean, Barnhart has made it clear Stoops is going nowhere.

Stoops’ most recent contract extension signed in March 2017 includes an automatic one-year extension for every 7-win season and an automatic two-year extension for any 10-win season

Just a month or so ago Barnhart said Stoops is going nowhere, that sounds like an automatic extension to me.

It actually does matter, as that additional year on the contract would factor into any buyout to be paid if he did leave, for whatever reason. Mitch’s comment notwithstanding.

Clutch, I thought his buyout was capped at $1M?

$1,000,000 is what Stoops would have to pay if he quits before the end of the contract. UK would owe him the remainder of his contract if they fire him without cause. What I’m getting at is that amount becomes greater (or at least it doesn’t decrease) when his contract keeps getting extended.

I love it! Do anything we have to do to keep him here!!

By my calculation, that’s an additional $2.7 million he could earn if they won it all.

Congrats to Coach, but you guys are nuts if you think we will win either of next two games if Wilson takes all the snaps. We are not winning because of him, we are winning despite of him.

Better dance with who brung ya! And I mean terry touch! to late to start playing with bench warmers. Benny in the wildcats and I think just use Lynn for 5 snaps and let him make something happen, at least he can pass out of the wildcat and create some space for himself. 6 snaps a game for aj and we control the clock with the run game and let the defense hold it down! I don’t think people will stack the box with Lynn and if the do touchdown! I like calculated risks not gambles. Maybe next yr Hoak or Clark but not this yr. I’ve been advocating for it as a fan but this is putting myself in stoops shoes. I don’t think terry can be any worse than what we’ve seen. Just hold on to the damn ball.

As bad as Terry has been at times, I agree with this. It’s hard to imagine how those other two haven’t gotten any meaningful PT at all this season, yet they’re ready to go in this crucial stretch in the middle of the season. If they do play a lot, this feels more like Stoops is deciding which weaknesses he can live with, rather than relying on any strengths they bring to the table.

You guys have lost your mind. TW plays every possession like he just came off the bench so how can it get any worse? Give Hoak or Clark a shot…what have we got to lose? I’m sure those guys can hand the ball off to Benny just as good as TW can. I’ve tried my best to think of a reason to leave TW in the game but I can’t think of anything. Again, how can it get any worse??

You say congrats to Stoops agent but I say congrats to Mitch.
Pay when you get great performance.
If he can get us to 8, 9, 10 wins I am more than happy to pay Stoops an extra $200, $400, to a Million Dollars extra. Think of what is coming to the University….Bowl Game money, more exposure etc.
    NOTHING BUT POSITIVE.

Just wondering if everyone feels like this if we win only 7 games AGAIN

I’ve always felt that five wins in the SEC should be the measuring stick. We do that on a regular basis and we’ll win 9-10 every year he’s here.
