Lynn Bowden voted Herald-Leader Sports Figure of the Year

Add another trophy to Lynn Bowden’s shelf. The Kentucky Football star was named 2019 Herald-Leader Kentucky Sports Figure of the Year, which was determined by a vote of 169 current and former media members. It’s the second straight year a Kentucky Football player has won the award. Josh Allen took it home last year.

Bowden beat out Lamar Jackson (Louisville Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens) and Ja Morant (Murray State, Memphis Grizzlies) for the honor. He received 91 out of 169 first-place votes, the third most in the 39-year history of the award. Only American Pharoah in 2015 and Lamar Jackson in 2016 have had more.

Here’s the top 10:

1. Lynn Bowden (91) – 1,702
2. Lamar Jackson (48) – 1,408
3. Ja Morant (11) – 1,105
4. Walker Buehler – 432
5. Asia Durr (1) – 425
6. Scott Satterfield (1) – 401
7. Abbey Cheek (2) – 397
8. Mark Stoops (1) – 348
9. Rhyne Howard – 311
10. Leah Edmond (1) -269

You can read about each athlete’s accomplishments over at the Herald-Leader, along with a sampling of comments from the panel, including a few from the KSR crew. I’ll share our ballots later this morning.

What is going on? I can comment on other threads but not the Show Thread. Weird.

The Kentucky Sports Figure of the Year almost went to someone who hasn’t played a single minute in the state of Kentucky for 2 years.

    That makes sense.
