Lynn Bowden Up For Second Manning Award Quarterback of the Week

Did you really think we were going to go an entire day without at least TWO Lynn Bowden posts? HA! That’s rich. It’s impossible to keep this dude out of the news, especially when he’s been nominated for another weekly award.

This week, the Kentucky quarterback has been tabbed one of eight gunslingers from this past week that are up for the Manning Award Star of the Week. You might remember that Bowden has already won this award back in October following the 24-20 win over Arkansas thanks to the Big Blue Nation voting him in as the winner. Well, get ready to vote again, folks, because he doesn’t deserve to lose this week.

Bowden was a Football God in Kentucky’s trouncing of the Red Team on Saturday, rushing for a career-high of 284 yards to go along with his four touchdowns. He only threw the ball twice, completing one of them for four yards, but that’s not the point. Bowden lined up at quarterback the entire game with the Lousiville defense knowing full-well that the former wide-receiver was going to run right down their throats – and there was nothing they could do to stop him.

The voting is conducted through a Facebook poll on the Allstate Sugar Bowl page and you vote by “liking” the photo of the player of your choosing (i.e. Bowden). You can vote through the link here.

At the time I type up this post, Bowden currently leads with over 2,400 votes while Florida quarterback Kyle Trask sits in second with a mere 1,200 likes. Let’s go ahead and boost that lead to at least 3,000 likes, shall we? Voting ends early on Wednesday and the winner will be announced shortly after.

Joining Bowden and Trask on the list are Sam Ehlinger (Texas), Justin Fields (Ohio State), Bryce Perkins (Virginia), Peyton Ramsey (Indiana), Zach Smith (Tulsa), and Zac Thomas (App. State).

Your app link can’t seem to recognize that I AM logged in to my android Facebook. This is the annoying interaction that I’m always complaining about between your app and almost any other external service that I’ve encountered. Also videos – the screen times out /sleeps during videos all the time. External website links rarely work right.

Lynn Bowden deserves all the accolades and rewards he has received and will continue too. Terry Wilson was serviceable in the position last year with Benny snell lined up behind him. Last year however, I was the outcast in our tailgate that said we need a quarterback. I suggested that if we are going to run a RPO type offense we should switch Bowden to qb and Wilson to the slot. Wilson could not throw a 15 yard or less pass higher than a receivers knees, he did not seem to go through progressions and looked to run first. Granted, this year he appeared to start off better but unfortunately he got injured. Benny, the offensive line and our defense won most of the games last year Wilson is so highly given credit for. I’m not convinced the outcome of this season would be better, or possibly worse, if he had remained the qb, we’ll never know, and I will continue to be outcast for wondering. I still believe the missing piece to or football team is an SEC caliber quarterback. Our running back position seems to be stacked, our defense seems to have depth not seen before. Our passing game is left uncertain by the lack of quarterback. If we don’t show a commitment to the passing game any improvement in receiver recruitment will fallback and we will become a one deminsional offense even more so than this last half of the year. Come on and pile on me, I’m used to it.
