The Big Blue Wall isn’t done with its preseason praise and accolades. Today it is Luke Fortner’s turn in the spotlight for his nomination for the William V. Campbell Trophy presented by Mazda. (Gotta get that Mazda in there.)
The Campbell Trophy is awarded to the nominee who best meets these qualifications:
– A senior or graduate student in their final year of eligibility;
– Have a grade point average of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale;
– Have outstanding football ability as a first team player; and
– Have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.
Fortner graduated back in December and is currently pursuing his master’s in mechanical engineering. When he’s not playing football or in the books, he’s probably providing smiles at the Kentucky Children’s Hospital, where he and Max Duffy created “In the Huddle with KCH,” a Q&A video series with the kids over eight weeks during quarantine.
On the field, Fortner started all 13 games at right guard last season.
How does anyone have time to accomplish all of these things?
