The Kentucky defense wants to get YOU ready for Saturday

We are just three days away from the first game at Kroger Field in 2018 and it feels like a holiday, quite frankly. So, what else to pump you up for Saturday? How about some quotes from Matt House and his defense to satisfy your appetite for now.

Jonathan Ward will get Kentucky’s response on Saturday

Central Michigan’s running back claims he has never heard of Benny Snell Jr., and I’m sure neither Benny nor the rest of team took the comment lightly. But instead of using Twitter fingers or microphones to talk, the defense says they don’t care what Ward has to say. Josh Allen, Mike Edwards, and Kash Daniel all said their game speaks for itself and Ward will get his response Saturday.

Boogie Watson and Josh Allen are competing for sacks

This season, Boogie Watson has taken over the position for Josh Allen as Allen has moved from strongside linebacker to outside linebacker. Allen said that Watson is pushing him to get better and they’re sharing new moves to make each other better. So much so that Allen and Watson are competing for most sacks this year as an extra incentive to get to the quarterback.

There is actually a lot of film on the Quarterback

This makes for an odd thing to point out, as (mostly) every team has film on the opposing quarterback each week. But this time, UK will face a 6’7 quarterback who has only thrown 21 passes in college and used to play wide receiver, making it obviously tough to get game film on him. With the Cats’ long history of struggling against running quarterbacks they haven’t seen, this is actually a big deal.

They want to take care of business early

It’s no secret that Kentucky has let non-power-five teams hang around in games longer than they should. According to Kash Daniel, there is a big emphasis on getting a comfortable lead early Saturday.

“With our history with out of conference teams, we tend to let them stay in the game and not really take care of business like we should,” he said. “So our main focus is to come out get going fast and early.”

I’m concerned with how losing Brown, Ware and Paschal will impact the D? Has to hurt our depth.
