Les Miles and OC out, D-Line coach in

Just a bit ago, Ross Dellenger of The Advocate, reported that Les Miles and his offensive coordinator Cam Cameron were both out at LSU.

The termination of both Miles and Cameron came after last night’s crazy loss to Auburn. LSU thought they had a game-winning touchdown in the final second, but the call was reversed when officials concluded that the Tigers had not snapped the ball off in time.

In the meantime, LSU’s defensive line coach, Ed Orgeron has been offered the interim head coach position.

(Dellenger 100% should’ve pulled an Alan Cutler and chased both of them into the facility)

And let the #LesMilesToKentucky stuff begin….

Wow, he averaged over 10 wins/season for, what, like 10 years.Something like a 77% win percentage and a national championship…….and they can him? Those people must be absolutely nutzzzz.

Imagine if UK had a basketball coach that won one national championship, had a perfect 16—0 regular season conference once, won five SEC regular season championships and five SEC Tournament titles, made it to the Sweet Sixteen six times, and Elite Eight four times in his ten seasons. named AP College Coach of the Year once, and also named SEC Coach of the Year three times. But, because he had some “subpar” recruiting and did not make it to the final four for nine straight seasons, he was forced to resign. Some folks might think those people were nutzzzz as well.

Saw this from a Bama fan who posted on the Wildcat Lair message board (Rivals.com):

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I don’t think Les Miles is all that great of a coach. He is horrible at making adjustments, is the worst clock manager in the country, and has underachieved almost every year that he has been at LSU, with talent on par with what Meyer and Saban have had every year. Since the 2007 title, he has averaged 3-4 losses per year with classes on par with the ones that Saban and Meyer bring in every year. Not to mention he has zero in-state competition in one of the most talent-rich states, and the overwhelming majority of the top targets in the state are loyal and have such pride for LSU that there isn’t much work needed on the recruiting trail to keep them home. Quite a few people think that he’s a great coach, which is laughable because there are at least 8 coaches that are better than him.

Still can’t wrap my head around this….He loses 2 road games & he’s out? I know they were upset by the Wisconsin game; but, didn’t they notice how the Badgers treated Michigan State yesterday? And that was a fluke at Auburn…..
Those people don’t know what hard times are. Stupid is as Stupid does, right Forrest?

Can we fire Stoops now and back the brinks truck up for Les Miles? I’d be totally ok with that right now.

Les Miles had a football record of 114-32 (62-28 in the SEC) at LSU and was just fired. At UK Rich Brooks was 39-47 (16-39 in the SEC) and got into the UK Hall of Fame and is the guy fans are hoping our current coach who is more like Les Nessman than Les Miles will turn out to be. #FireMitch

JRock1966 – You’re delusional to attempt to compare these 2 coaches.

Tubby Smith was never (and has never) been in the same league with Les Miles.

    Tubby Smith
    1997—98 … Kentucky … 35—4 … 14—2 … NCAA Champions
    1998—99 … Kentucky … 28—9 … 1—5
    1999—00 … Kentucky … 23—10 … 12—4
    2000—01 … Kentucky … 24—10 … 12—4
    2001—02 … Kentucky … 22—10 … 10—6
    2002—03 … Kentucky … 32—4 … 16—0
    2003—04 … Kentucky … 27—5 … 13—3
    2004—05 … Kentucky … 28— 6… 14—2
    2005—06 … Kentucky … 22—13 … 9—7
    2006—07 … Kentucky … 22—12 … 9—7

    Les Miles
    2005 … LSU … 11—2 … 7—1
    2006 … LSU … 11—2 … 6—2
    2007 … LSU … 12—2 … Won BCS NCG
    2008 … LSU … 8—5 … 3—5
    2009 … LSU … 9—4 … 5—3
    2010 … LSU … 11—2 … 6—2
    2011 … LSU … 13—1 … 8—0 Loss BCS NCG
    2012 … LSU … 10—3 … 6—2
    2013 … LSU … 10—3 … 5—3
    2014 … LSU … 8—5 … 4—4
    2015 … LSU … 9—3 … 5—3
    2016 … LSU … 2—2 … 1—1

In this case, LSU is nuts. UK had to cut the deadwood.

And I’m not sure Tubby’s basketball success in the SEC could be regarded as being equal to Miles’ football success in the SEC.

      runningunnin.454 – Not sure???

Les Miles is a college coaching god (9 out of 12 seasons were 9+ wins). Consistency & in the hunt (as a recruiter and coach.. record proves it).

Tubby was a “Georgia Basketball” calibur coach (6 of 10 seasons had 9+ losses). Inconsistent & never in the hunt for Championships (1 Final Four, in 1st year with Pitino’s players… seriously… do you remember our point guards??? What a joke.).

GroundControl, ole boy read my comment again. I was saying Tubby’s success in a football conference with weak compeitition was not as remarkable as Miles’ success battling other top football programs in the SEC.
      I believe we agree.

Ok man but you cannot argue UK basketball has high expectations just like LSU has with their football team. And you don’t think UK would axe a basketball coach in a heartbeat if they weren’t meeting those expectations?

    • GroundControlToNumber9
      9:38 pm September 25, 2016 Permalink

      JRock1966 & runningunnin.454 – Tubby wasn’t treated unfairly. The 2 situations are completely different.

UK has high historically valid expectations in Basketball.
      – Our AD bungled it every year from 2002 until 2009. That 7 straight years of buffoonery.
LSU has high historically valid expectations in Football.
      – Their AD pulled the rug too quickly on Les Miles.

There’s a balance that any AD should maintain (not too soon & not too fast). LSU’s AD Joe Alleva already has a checkered past and history of doing things too quickly. He forfeited the Duke Lacrosse season back in 2006 (when he was their AD) even though it was proven those players had been set up.

This LSU decision is somewhat comparable than the Frank Solich firing that took place at Nebraska back in 2003. Such stupid decisions.

He was one of my most likable coaches in the SEC. Made gutsy calls and his teams won at an incredible rate. LSU will have a hard time replacing him unless they snatch up that coach at North Dakota St. Hard to feel sorry for them here.

    Mitch Barnhart – Failures:

    1. Waited too long (as the history proves) to fire Tubby… should have been canned after 2001-2002 (4th 9+ loss seasons in a row).
    2. Refusing to hire Calipari in 2009 (when Cal has shown interest).
    3. Hiring Gillispie.

That’s how he handled the most valuable crown jewel of the University.

Everyone knows how the Football handling as gone down (See EdC’s post above). Brooks was a failure but was spun as a savior. And some people wearing blue believe it still (including clueless Administration).

jaws – You not only don’t know how to spell… your biggest problem is you don’t even recollect history accurately.

      Bobby Petrino @ Arkansas
      2008 … Arkansas … 5—7 … 2—6 … T—4th (Western)
      2009 … Arkansas … 8—5 … 3—5 … T—4th (Western) … W Liberty
      2010 … Arkansas … 10—3 … 6—2 … T—2nd (Western) … L Sugar … Final Ranking: 12
      2011 … Arkansas … 1—2 … 6—2 … 3rd (Western) … W Cotton … Final Ranking: 5

Petrino was in talks with Joe B. Hall (a friend) about coaching UK Football when Mitch Barnhart shut it down.

Petrino currently has Louisville 4-0 and ranked 3rd in the AP Top 25.

When was the last time UK was ranked #3? News flash: we will never be with Mitch Barnhart as AD.
