In the wake of the first College Football Playoff rankings — I see you down there at #7, Louisville! — ESPN released a new batch of bowl projections last night, and I’m a huge, huge fan of one of the scenarios. Brett McMurphy has Kentucky playing Baylor in the Texas Bowl in Houston on December 28, which, blah, blah, whatever, but his colleague Mark Schlabach has the Cats playing Iowa in the Music City Bowl in Nashville on December 30.
Obviously, this is a dream scenario for me, even though I’ll probably be in Oxford the night before for the UK/Ole Miss basketball game. Still…an early drive back and partying with the Big Blue Nation in my own city? Yes, please!
USA Today’s Erick Smith also released a new batch of projections today, which has Kentucky playing Miami (Fla.) in the Belk Bowl on December 29. I’m skeptical this would happen because the SEC will likely take UK’s basketball game that night into consideration, but if it did, we’d have to dub it the Lamar Thomas Bowl, correct?
