KSR wants YOUR questions for Media Day

JoJo Kemp and Jeff Badet

UK Football Media Day starts bright and early at 9:45 tomorrow morning, and Nick Roush and I will be making the rounds at the Wildcat Den at Commonwealth Stadium, along with Ryan Lemond on radio coverage. Here’s the schedule of events:

9:45 a.m.: Mitch Barnhart, Mark Stoops, Neal Brown, DJ Eliot News Conference
10 — 10:40 a.m.: Players available on the field for special photographs (in case of rain, on-field activities will be in the Nutter Field House)
11 a.m.: Team photo followed by assistant coaches, student-athletes available on field
Noon: Conclusion of interviews

Nick and I have a list of questions ready for the coaches and players, but we want your input as well. What are some questions you’d like us to ask? We’ll talk to all your favorites, including Patrick Towles, Drew Barker, Bud Dupree, Za’Darius Smith, Matt Elam, JoJo Kemp, and more.

And no, I’m not going to ask Corey Johnson why he poops five times a day. (Although that is really strange.)

Have you ever thought about having the field blessed? Get rid of the bad omens that have infected the field over the years.

If not the poop question, then can you at least ask him if he is the one that broke Coach’s toilets?

Coach Stoops mentioned that we had a bad practice this week. If Stoops sees a similar lack of energy in a game that he saw in practice, how does he plan on handling the situation, given the lack of depth at several positions?

FIRST, how is Maxwell Smith’s shoulder after off season surgery? Is it 100% now?

SECOND, anytime during Josh Clemons TWO season ending injuries, did he ever consider not returning to football? and what are his thoughts of playing in his first actual game since 2011?

Why do running backs find the air raid offense so attractive? An offense based around passing. How do you sell them on it?

Good question, and I’m by no means an expert, but it seems to me that RB’s still play a large role in UK’s version of the air raid offense. Last year, The RB’s had 270 carries, and the QB’s threw 343 passes – which is about 40/60. Also, a lot of NFL teams want versatile backs who can run and catch passes out of the backfield.

Question: How likely are we to use a two RB set? Who would they be? Two speed backs, or one speed back and one power back? Will our offensive scheme for this year be a 50%/50% run to pass ratio?

  21. PLEASE ASK THIS!!
    11:28 pm August 7, 2014 Permalink

I have submitted this question before, but it has never been asked, and I am very, very interested in it being asked to Coach Stoops. It may sound ridiculous, but I’m being truly genuine: Have you ever considered trying John Gruenschlaeger over the snapper on FGs/PATs, even in a two-point stance a few yards off the ball? I understand he may not be the most athletic guy on the field, but a 7-footer putting his arms overhead, with his size hands and even a very meager vertical jump, one can’t help but think he could alter or block some kicks …especially on longer FGs where the kick trajectory must be lower. At the very least, wouldn’t it rattle a kicker and get in his head by seeing this mountain pre-snap and knowing he has to kick over top of him? Last season, Arkansas used a 6’10” 320 freshman OT for this exact purpose and he set a school record for blocked FGls, and was second in the entire nation in blocked kicks. Go UK Football!!!

I can tell you that over the last two years they’ve put Big Jack in the FG unit as an additional blocking lineman, but I am not sure if I’ve ever seen him on FG defense. I’ll investigate and have your question answered sooner or later

Question for Mark Stoops, Neil Brown & DJ Eliot- Braylon Heard’s choice of Three 6 Mafia “Who Run It” will be played before the kickoff- what song would they have suggested be played?

Coach Stoops- are there any positions you feel you might have a strong advantage over our opponets?
Neil- you’re in favor of a fast paced offense, is there a certain number of plays you wish the offense runs per game?

    Questions for the players:
Who is the biggest trash talker on the team?
What is the one drill that you dread the most during practice?
Can you give us you best impersonation of Coach Stoops, Coach Brown and Coach Eliot?
Who is their current celebrity crush?
