Kentucky’s additional 2020 opponents are Alabama and Ole Miss

John David Mercer | USA Today Sports

Bring. On. Bama.

The SEC just revealed each team’s additional non-divisional opponents for the 2020 season, and Kentucky drew Alabama and Ole Miss. The game vs. the Crimson Tide will take place in Tuscaloosa, while the game vs. the fighting Lane Kiffins will happen at Kroger Field.

Kentucky last played Alabama in 2016, a 34-6 loss in Tuscaloosa, and Ole Miss in 2017, a 37-34 heartbreaker in Lexington. Alabama is ranked No. 3 in the Preseason Coaches Poll, finished the 2019 season 11-2, and is led by former UK commit Mac Jones. Ole Miss finished the 2019 season 4-8 and is in rebuilding mode under first-year coach Lane Kiffin. That makes it four teams in the Coaches Preseason Top 25 that Kentucky will face. We got this!

Last week, the SEC announced it was moving to a 10-game, conference-only schedule for 2020, with the first games taking place on September 26. The SEC Championship game is scheduled for December 19 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. We won’t know dates until next week, but here’s Kentucky’s 2020 schedule in full:

  • Florida (Away)
  • South Carolina (Home)
  • Auburn (Away)
  • Vanderbilt (Home)
  • Missouri (Away)
  • Tennessee (Away)
  • Mississippi State (Home)
  • Georgia (Home)
  • Alabama (Away)

11-0, right?

Hope they’re at a very limited fan capacity. That’s a pretty rough away schedule

I hope to god we do have fans, this quarantine has done a number on me but looking at the writing on the wall I really don’t think it’s going to happen.

We should have got Bama as our home game, now we lose 3 home games and just get Ole Miss in their place. May not matter if we can’t go but UK owes us some money back. I would much rather go to the 3 home games we had than see Ole Miss. Now if we had LSU or Bama at home I would gladly exchange my 3 games for that one, straight up.

If there are no fans in attendance we still get credit on season tickets that roll over to next season. Which isn’t really ideal because I would rather just go but it’s better than nothing

My best guess is that Alabama will have a full stadium, and we’ll be limited to 25-50% capacity.

P-Cat, I live in Tuscaloosa. Believe me, there won’t be anywhere near a full house as the Mayor here is still shutting things down even as the students are returning to town.

When our o-line runs over Bama people outsiders will stop doubting. Can’t wait for this year. Our team was built for this. Go Cats!

I’d bet my house we won’t lose more than 5. 6-4 I would put on par with 2018 and 7-3 would arguably be the best year UK has had since we won the Sugar Bowl.

So you’re betting your house that we are one game above what you consider par? So one flop game and you lose your house. Brave brave man.

Well LSU sucked up hard to someone – they get Missouri and Vanderbilt? Apparently the SEC wants to make sure we get a team or two to the playoffs for the money we will miss from no tix sales this year. Could be worse though Missouri got Alabama and LSU! Don’t know who they pissed off.

Don’t underestimate State. You never know what the pirate will have up his sleeve. Same thing with Ole Miss and Kiffin, and we have to play them both now, plus Bama of course.

    • mashburnfan1
      9:31 pm August 7, 2020 Permalink

you act like they did that to give UGA an easy path, no , it is because they already had Aub and Bama scheduled. They set this to try to make it balanced. My only gripe is the Bama game should be a home game for us since we last played them at Bama and last played Ole Miss at home.

“We got this”??? Really? 6-4 against this schedule is successful and that’s assuming we can beat TN on the road. 5-5 is just as likely and I don’t even want to think about dropping a turd and losing one we shouldn’t. We have to win all the fans we are supposed to and get some breaks in a couple more to win 7-8 games.

In the past 4 years, Bama has signed 46 Top 100 players and we only have 1. Quite frankly, we couldnt even beat their backups. We havent landed a 5-star recruit in almost 15 years. (source: 247)

We really cant compete on the field until we compete on the recruiting trail and how do we compete in recruiting? I dont know.

I agree, except 7-3 no chance. That would be exceptional, but not impossible. Just beat 2/5 UGA, Bama, UF, AU, UT and win all the others which we will be favored.

5-5 likely the best outcome, maybe 6-4. If we catch all the breaks and get a win or two against someone we wouldn’t normally beat….in a perfect world 7-3. Recruiting has gone decently, OL and DL looks strong. To get better as a team need to go against the big boys instead of playing some lower level out of conference team.

Unfortunately a schedule like this could really hurt our recruiting. Playing .500 ball is not a great selling point. No more cake games to boost the wins. Hope Covid doesn’t hurt our future recruiting.

This is a big season for stoops. Lots of folks out there that think Stoops has peaked, can’t coach in game, can’t recruit elite talent (even in state), etc etc wanted Kiffin or Leachz Would be tough to lose to those guys, those will be the games that make or break this season.

    • mashburnfan1
      3:11 pm August 8, 2020 Permalink

Funny they say Stoops can’t coach in game. He has made mistakes but was also new on the job {as a HC} so we had to go through the growing pains with him. Yet all of you praise Cal who has the best recruiting class every year, a million NBA players, coached forever in the NCAA and still can’t win with the best team{not to mention caught cheating twice}. Flames out every year to a much inferior team, wins games mostly due to schedule and flat out having the best players over the opponent. The best job Cal and staff did was the year we beat OSU and UNC in tourney, that was a good job even though OSU was overrated. Stoops has boosted recruiting in a big way yet still finishes 10th or so in the SEC yet finishes higher than that. Has taken zero star recruits to top ten picks, Cal takes top 10 picks to still unwanted. Our FB team has to compete in the toughest Conf while basketball gets a weak Conf {4th in power conf}. In football much harder to rebuild as you need 40 plus talented players, we now have way more than that, best football in my 50 plus years despite toughest Conf. Yes we lost some we should not but nothing like Evansville or Robert Morris losses. Our OL and DL is among the best in the Country and that is how you start a team. If TW is what I think he can be we can win 7 or more of these games.

Those “lots of folks” are morons and couldn’t spot good football. They need to get football for dummies and study hard. The lines are why we’re going to be good.

We will get to see how good of a coach Stoops really is this year. Won’t be able to hide behind 3 MAAC level teams and a down uofl program. Throw in Vandy and one of the awful teams from the west we play every year And you have 6 wins before the season starts. Not to mention the fact they we get 8 home games every other year, lol. We have not played a non conference power 5 team not named Louisville in 15 years. With these added SEC games, Stoops is basically being forced to play a real schedule.

    • mashburnfan1
      3:18 pm August 8, 2020 Permalink

But we had that same schedule before Stoops and went 2-10. He beat UF at UF and should have 3 of last 4 wins over them. Played UGA tough, few years ago lost on last second FG. Last year played with them well with a WR at QB. Yes we had some bad losses especially to UT. But the all mighty Suckeyes lose almost every year to an average team and get blown out cough cough Purdue, Iowa etc. Beat U6 when they were a top team as well. Beat a very good program in Va Tech, again with a WR at QB. Name me a team that loses their top 2 quarterbacks three games into a season {in the SEC especially} that still makes and wins a Bowl game vs a good program. Penn State lost to Ohio St by a point the year we beat them in the Citrus Bowl and they are a yearly top 15 program {we should have won that game by 15 plus}. If you can’t see what Stoops and staff has done you are blind or just stupid, sadly we can’t fix either of them.

It does not matter what any of us think. What does the evidence say? I think the evidence is pretty clear that stoops has done a good job. If you want a man who does not make excuses, who accepts ownership and responsibility and works hard and has his players back then you need to look no further than the current head coach! Let’s Go!

A lot of people this and a lot of people that! A good administrator and leader of people is not always an overtly tangible attribute. Put me in the camp of the few people that support stoops and don’t need The results of this season to determine who he is as a coach. He has earned my respect and the respect of a lot of others and so I am not going to spend time and energy assessing his ability based on this season. Rather I am going to overtly support him and encourage him and the team. He has earned that! Let’s Go!

Well, we lost 5 SEC games last year and replaced our win against Arkansas with road games at Auburn and Alabama. We will have to beat three of those five and win 2 of 3 against Ole Miss, UA , and AU to go 7-3. That’s a tall order.

    • mashburnfan1
      3:21 pm August 8, 2020 Permalink

we had a WR at QB last year and everyone in the world knew we were running the ball 70 times a game and still got to a decent Bowl and and beat a program that has been to a bowl for like 100 straight years. Name any team that loses its top 2 quarterbacks three games in and finishes like we did in the toughest Conf in the game. THAT IS COACHING.

Bama at home and Ole Miss away would have been more fair but most all of the changes were made to give an advantage to Alabama, LSU, Ga,and Florida.
