Kentucky state championship moving to Kroger Field

The KHSAA state football finals are moving to Kroger Field!

Beginning as immediate as this fall, Kroger Field will play host to the KHSAA football finals for the upcoming 2017 season. The finals will then return in 2018, as approved by the board of Control and announced Wednesday.

Mitch Barnhart expressed interest in one day hosting the state’s championship games soon after the Commonwealth Stadium’s renovations were completed last year. It didn’t take long for him to get his wish.

The finals had previously been played in Bowling Green at Western Kentucky’s Houchens Industries—L. T. Smith Stadium at Jimmy Feix Field (and you thought Kroger Field was a bad name) since way back in 2009.

Josh Moore over at the Herald-Leader’s outstanding high school coverage broke the story here.

Uhh hey Drew, Jimmy Feix had Parkinson’s Disease. Is that as funny as his bad name?

Calm down. I doubt he’s making fun of the guy’s name. He’s pointing out the mouthful of a stadium/field name and you are crazy to think anything different.

Uh hey Memphis, some people have Anxiety Disorders and can’t calm down. Pretty inconsiderate of you.

What does the guy having Parkinson’s have to do with anything? Overreact much?

Uh hey Clutch, some people can’t think or move. They’d love to be able to react or overreact.

Nice, shorter drive to watch Trinity win another title.

It’s about time! To put the state championship in the far south western corner of the state is ridiculous.

Lol at your description of Bowling Green’s location.

We have very different views of the map of Kentucky.

From the movie Tommy Boy, “get yourself a new map.”

Cool development. Given the rising profile of football in Kentucky, the game should be at Commonwealth (and, no, UK does not have the power to “really” change that name – we’ll just “pretend” it’s called Kroger Field for a while).

Man, having that gas available there almost makes me want to get back to the stadium parking lots! Almost.

….or they could just give it to Trinity now and save the effort……..
