Kentucky ranked No. 58 in very early preseason rankings

mark-stoops

Sports On Earth, a website dedicated to sports played on the third planet from the sun, has a very, very, very early preseason ranking of all college football teams for the 2016 season.

Alabama is the Sports on Earth’s preseason No. 1 team, with your University of Kentucky Wildcats falling a close 57 spots behind:

58. Kentucky. Questions persist as to whether Kentucky will ever get over the hump. The offense will turn to former touted recruit Drew Barker with Patrick Towles transferring, and Cincinnati coordinator Eddie Gran comes in to call the plays. After two 5-7 seasons, Mark Stoops really needs to take advantage of a weakened SEC East and get the Wildcats back to a bowl game, especially with all of the backs and receivers returning. [Sports On Earth]

Southern Miss, Kentucky’s first opponent, is ranked 14 spots ahead of the Cats.

Here is where all of the teams on next year’s schedule rank:

44. Southern Miss (Home)
24. Florida (Away)
113. New Mexico State (Home)
61. South Carolina (Home)
1. Alabama (Away)
67. Vanderbilt (Home)
37. Mississippi State (Home)
54. Missouri (Away)
22. Georgia (Home)
13. Tennessee (Away)
— Austin Peay (Home)
21. Louisville (Away)

That leaves only two SEC teams, Vanderbilt and South Carolina, ranked lower than Kentucky.

guess you are only referring to the SEC teams ranked lower and omitting NM State and Austin Peay based on that fact. I believe we can be 5-7 or worst next season and be vastly improved. What we need to be successful, next season, is to look like a football team for 12 games. If we can do that, I believe there will be a 13th game based on the other teams giving us some games. I am looking forward to Spring football and the 2016 season. #ALLIN

Message to any visiting QB’s on campus today, sign on the dotted line, Drew can show you your room, unpack, and he can lead you back to the training facility where you 2 can get to work. #ALLIN

Probable Wins (S. Miss, NM St., Vandy, AP) Probable loses (Bama, UT, UF, UGA)

Have to win 2 out of 4 (S.C., Miss St, Mizzou, UL)

If i had to guess i believe we lose to Miss St. and UL but beat S.C. and Mizzou. Regardless, 6 wins are well within reach.

Southern Miss is at best a toss up. I see 4-8 as most likely record. Wins vs. NM St, Vandy, SC, AP.

After the recent beat downs Miss State has put on UK and fact that Dan Mullins has NEVER lost to UK, why do you think that’s a toss up game?! They are light years ahead of UK

MUST Wins: Southern Miss, NM St., Vandy, Mizzou, and Austin Peay.

That leaves toss up games with: S. Carolina and Louisville. Not adding Miss St. because Dan Mullen has done a great job of building a consistent winner in Starksville.

I know last year UK fanbase put a lot into the UF game, but this year is another opportunity to end that very long losing streak to the Gators. UF has a worse QB position to figure out than UK, and a lot of guys of left early for the NFL draft. It being early in the season is a great opportunity to beat a UF team that will be trying to figure out what young guys can play for them. But we shall see.

I like the optimism, but I have given up EVER anticipating a win vs. UF.

Southern Miss will set the stage for the remainder of the season. We drop that and we’ll win 4 games at best. Oh, and the fan base will dwindle rapidly.

Looks like a 2-10 season or, at best, a 3-9 / no bowls and it will only get worse until someone can teach DEFENSE which, obviously, hasn’t been done since Stoops got here. Cannot believe I am saying this because I thought it was impossible, but Stoops is making Joker look better.

Let’s just look at the O line and the D line. With everything else improving means nothing unless there is at least mediocre line play. I really hope that tackling can be taught for the defensive players also since that seemed to be missing last year, worst I ever seen at UK.

No worries. The awful line play for the last three years under Elliot is going to magically improve in the next 8 months. Elam will be All American. Just you trolls wait and see!!

At best another 5-7 season. Highly doubtful we beat UL, and moderately doubtful we beat Southern Miss. We blew our best opportunity in 2015 with the way the schedule was laid out.

  9. BobNWeaver

The season starts with Southern Miss and that is a HUGE HUGE game. Probably a “pick-em” game, but one that UK really, really needs to win. Even with that win, we might still only win 5 games all season, but we need to get that first win in Week 1.

funny how Louisville is a “toss up” for every commenter on here. C’mon, their defense is gonna be really really good and if Jackson can improve his passing and continues to run, their offense will only get better. We lost to them for sure. Or do you not remember getting embarrassed by them this year?

The refs cheated us. We have Matt Elam back next year. So there….

Hey Uk Big Board, when on earth are going to actually say something intelligent. All I was saying is we can’t keep putting ul in the toss up category every year when they are clearly better than us right now

This is crazy. People expecting this team to win four games? I am hopeful we win 2.

    This is based on:
    1) How the team was managed last year
    2) The play of the defense
    3) Special teams
    4) The problems with the line play (both sides of the ball),
    5) Receivers
    6) Head case players (one being the only QB with game experience),
    7) The players that departed,
    8) The new OC and QB coach brought in to make our offense better (coming from the team the sports media had listed as one of the most disappointing teams last season)

Did we forget about these things? This stuff does not change very easily.

I find it a bit much to think we will win very many games.

Let’s please not talk about having a worse record and being better than last year, even though it will be the toughest schedule Stoops will have since he arrived. It does not matter how difficult your schedule is, you still have to play them, and you should still be required to win them. Bill Parcells has said “You are, what you are.” I agree. Tough schedule or not, he is being paid millions to win.

I think we are no closer to a .500 season than we were when Joker was the coach.

4 years of Stoops recruiting is now on board. We can’t use the “we are so young” excuse going forward. This team is the product of Stoops work here for the last three years.

Next season will be the test. I hope for the best. The results next year, will tell us all, if Stoops is the coach this program needs going forward.

Kentucky will win 4 games next year. There will be a great insistence that this 4 win team was actually better than last years 5 year team! Then there will be bashing of the fans from some at KSR for not showing up and making the ‘national athletic director of the year’ look like horrendous failure. Rinse, repeat for 2017 except then, UK will lose AT Southern Miss in Hattiesburg Mississippi because of our brilliant out of conference scheduling practices.

You are making predictions in January about the entire season, and we don’t even know what our complete roster is. I’ll admit, you do have a vivid, child-like imagination, but that doesn’t mean you are correct. It makes you sound miserable and stupid. But keep it up – its hilarious!!! 😉

You still don’t address anything I wrote. No roster move UK will make at this point will change anything in the final record. Nothing I wrote requires “child-like imagination.” That’s my prediction. Now go on and pretend to know where I write from.

I think the team can make a bowl game. Especially of these recruits are what they say they are.

Looks like Rivals might make the lineman commit, Landon Young a 5-star.

They talked about it on their podcast, starting at the 12:55 mark: https://soundcloud.com/commitmentissues/episode-9-all-star-recap-gators-ole-miss-uga-more
